The deep fried laziji is a huge hit! You can taste the chili and peppercorns quite prominently and the batter is amazing. You’ll lose track of how many pieces you’re popping in your mouth!
My favourite dish to order at Chinese dining places! The spice had a much more fragrant kick here than the noodles, every cube of tofu was super addictive. Gravy was thick and serving size just right to share with 2-3 people, if you’re getting other dishes.
Huge, carb-heavy portion of biang biang noodles that is bound to fill you up so please come with an empty stomach! Worth what you’re paying for at $8.70 and the spice has a slight kick, though not as much as I’d like. Just take note that the noodles are thick (think mee hoon kueh) but also long like regular noodles so they can be a bit tricky to eat. Best not to wear white!
Huge fan of the beef noodles here! Soup stock is amazingly fragrant, very beefy if that’s what you like. They also use fresh and good quality beef that’s not too dry or tough. Beef balls are springy, as they should be. A bowl of sliced beef noodles + 3 beef balls will set you back $9.80 and for the generous portions, I’d say it’s money well spent.
Had a plaster prata, one mushroom and cheese prata along with mutton curry and a drink. Set me back $13 which is I thought was reasonable for 2023!
First time trying the plaster and I can see why people like it very much. A runny egg yolk over any carb is the best comfort food ever 😍 Also enjoyed the mutton curry. Meat wasn’t too tough and the curry had the right amount of spice, nothing too overwhelming.
Finally tried the famous coffee shop rosti! For only $8.90 you get a wholly filling meal. I enjoyed this so much more than Marche’s because it’s half the price and gets you comfortably full instead of obscenely full. They presently only take cash or Nets. Most of the other stalls are also cash only.
I mean basically… Very value for money and family-friendly diner. No complaints though it’s not for fussy eaters! Bonito chicken + mac and cheese + fries. Like Aston’s, you can do a protein + 2 sides, and there are a variety of other dishes as well like pasta and Asian flavours.
Don’t eat soupy prawn mee often (I’m a bigger fan of the fried hokkien ones), but these ones are simply a must try. Rich stock and seriously large prawns that have been sliced in half for easier consumption, this bowl makes for a comforting lunch, even if it won’t fill you up entirely. You can add portions of abalone, pork skin, and pork rib if you’d like. Worth the queue, though I’d still suggest heading over around 11-ish before the crowd builds up. This soupy goodness will set you back anywhere between $4-8 depending on your order and add-ons.
