This was my favourite, with the shredded coconut being pretty fragrant and moist, albeit a little too sweet. Would also love for more fillings considering the pastry itself was quite thick.
Felt that there were too much sugar bits such that the peanut flavour was less strong/ fragrant than it might have been.
If you like those green tea mooncake kind of green tea flavoured pastes, you'd like this. I personally didn't mind it?
This was defo more like red bean paste than black ssm, which I guess was kinda expected as I didn't hold much high expectations :').
Located at Neil Road, @bubugaosheng.pancake offers Min Jiang Kueh in different forms and flavours, making you pretty spoilt for choice!
Taro
It did look like a thick creamy paste, but was kinda sad that it didn't taste like taro? There was also a strong planta taste which I wasn't a fan of. Have to give credits to all their MJK pastry though, as they were all soft, moist and chewy, albeit a little too thick for my liking.
Don't expect the same kind of Jap Mochi chewy texture, this is a different kind of chewy, more like sticky, and you got to microwave these for 10s so you get a lava filling within.
Overall some hits and misses, although I'd reco getting the Pandan Kanom Krok which is really good! Definitely won't be my last time getting because I just love chewy and fragrant Coconut desserts!
These were cold and pretty hard and dense when we bought it, so defo can't compare to the actual one we had in Thailand!
These are mini rolled-up pancakes, and amongst all the flavours we had, custard was the most fragrant one that's worth a try. Sweet potato is once again pretty mild!
Literally just came back from Thailand but already missing the food there. Kanom Krok is actually a traditional Thai coconut-rice pancake snack, but honestly it's sooo difficult to find even in Thailand?! Really glad that Sg sells it too, so I can satisfy some of my Thai snack cravings đź¤.
Kanom Krok (10pcs $4, 20 pcs $7.50)
These were really soft and chewy, and I'd reco getting the green pandan one instead of the purple sweet potato one, because the pandan was way more fragrant. Texture wise both were as chewy!
Ondeh Ondeh (5 for $3.20, 10 for $6)
These are sold out extremely quickly and early, we had to preorder them at the stall and come back after 20min, in which they'd make a quantity specific to your order. Kinda sad to say that the Gula Melaka they used for this ondeh ondeh wasn't really to my palette. It does burst into your mouth and the Ondeh Ondeh is chewy, but I didn't enjoy the taste/ flavour of the Gula Melaka that was used within, and also because it was way too sweet.
Kueh Bingka (?)
Can't remember what this Kueh was, but it's basically a baked Tapioca Kueh with coconut on top. Thought this was kinda disappointing, the Kueh itself was quite dry and slightly hard, I didn't particularly enjoyed this, so just go for their Ubi Kayu and Kueh Kosui!
These kuehs from Maxwell Hawker are very much worth a try, but I'd defo recommend heading there before lunch to avoid disappointment!
Ubi Kayu/ Kueh Kosui (Small Box: $3.20, Big Box: $6)
We got their Ubi Kayu (Steamed Tapioca Kueh) & Kueh Kosui in a large box for $6, and man, they were extremely soft! Really loved the tapioca flavour and fragrance of their Ubi Kayu, and also how they disintegrate in your mouth so easily.
The Kueh Kosui was definitely my favourite out of all the loots we got from here, because their Gula Melaka is really fragrant, and the kueh is just so soft! This is probably the best Kueh Kosui I've had so far.
