My dear friend brought me to her favourite hotpot restaurant!! 😍 it was a buffet that comes with both hotpot and bbq (they have the only-hotpot option as well). For the hotpot, we got the pork and mala broth. The mala broth was drinkable, it wasn’t exceedingly oily and spicy like some other hotpot places that I have tried before (where the broth is only used to cook the ingredients), and xiao la surprisingly had the kick already! The pork broth was clear, sweet and fragrant, and was great complement to mala :-) the BBQ meat didn’t wow me though, we got their special sauce marinate pork belly and chicken but I actually felt that it was quite bland... the plethora of ingredients selection was massive though - fish was REALLY good, and spot the clams and scallops!!! Buffet comes with unlimited sauce selection, fruits and ice-cream too!
Overall it’s value-for-money and would recommend for group gatherings (and the mala broth), ingredients are rather standard, so can’t expect mindblowingly freshness or quality!
I enjoyed this fish head steamboat experience soso much!!! So much warmth and homeliness esp on a rainy day :-) Nan hwa chong remains a place full of childhood memories for me! We requested for the small portion (soup is refillable the uncles are v v kind!!) and without fish head so they replaced with fish slices! The fish slices are huge and so fresh! Soup was so so tasty and clear (they boil each bowl of soup with charcoal fire)! And we got the salted egg chicken / sambal kangkong / braised tofu / prawn paste chicken - special shout-out to the braised tofu: usually I’m not a fan but I enjoyed that the sauce is slightly sweet and it’s infused into the tofu! Overall v v happy and warm 😌
Not the typical HDL or BIAP but Shang Pin was equally satisfying without burning a hole in our wallets!! Had to get the typical tomato soup (relatively ketchup-y and sweeter compared to other tomato soups but not complaining!!) / as for the Sichuan Spicy Soup, we got the 小辣 but oh boy it was REALLY pretty 辣 and 呛, would say you could give it a miss for this soup?? / the most surprising hit was the chicken pumpkin soup!! I expected the broth to be thick (cos pumpkin) but no eh, it was really light and flavourful and the pumpkin taste was very subtle, giving a refreshing taste to the soup. Ingredients rather typical, quite fresh, nothing to pick on! Very comfortable space (rather empty on a weekend lunch), service was good! Will I be back? Maybe? Tho SLF is still my go-to hotpot place regardless!!
The collagen soup here is really good, even better than hdl’s! I also liked the thin noodles served here. Personally, I feel that there’s not much of a difference between hdl and bitp. Both offer a good hotpot experience :)
What more can I say about haidilao? It’s a popular place for hotpot amongst Singaporeans. Favourites here include: fish (I personally prefer this to BITP’s), prawn paste, fried taukee roll, deep fried mantous and definitely the tomato soup base. The bai yu soup base is very flavourful and delicious too!
