Japanese
We visited this sushi restaurant at Northshore tonight and are pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and level of services. The Foie Gras Beef Donburi $25 is very tender, tasty and juicy . The Salmon and Crabmeat Aburi $18 really tickled our palate. The Ebi Tempura $16 and Ten Donburi $15 comes with big firm prawns that are fresh, huge and crispy. Fresh ingredients really needs no further explanation. A young waiter overheard our birthday celebration and brought over a slice of complimentary Tiramisu cake which was fantastically good. While seeing that my kids are sharing the slice of Tiramisu, another lady waiter brought us another complimentary Yuzu cake, which totally blew our minds with its layers of soft sponge and tinge of zest at the right level. Double surprises, and all thumbs up on the level of the services again. Would recommend a visit if you are around the area. We will go back to try other dishes on the menu again.
We had been treated to a exquisite experience at this new Japanese restaurant located at Dorsett Residences. IPPAI's menu is full of surprises. Our taste buds were awaken by the start of the Century Egg Tofu appetizer ($5). The blended century egg complements astonishingly well with the tofu. Next must try is the umami Truffle Somen ($26) and Fugu Mirin $13, which I must say was an unexpected pleasant explosion of aromatic flavours. Other dishes that went well were the Foie Gras Wagyu Maki ($32), Unagi Don ($25) and Chirashi Don ($23) with generous portion of sashimi. The Momo Taro which is a Tomato dish turns out to be very refreshing with a tinge of vinegar. Even the dessert Sea Salt Ice-Cream taste extraordinary with a blend of vanilla. Nice ambience and pleasant food presentation too.
Overall we find this new place a must try for Japanese food lovers. Service is also very good, fast and hospitable.
Finally back for our all time favourite Steak, the smokey robust meat accompanied with the spicy tangy sauce is definitely a must try. ($15.90) The Hamachi kama yaki ($22.90) is worth every cent with its firm tender fresh meat. You may also opt for the Chirashi Don ($24.40) for its variety of sashimi. The Salmon Don ($19.40) is fresh but is rather ordinary and hence is not reccomend if you're looking for something unique.
Enjoyed the Signature Don $14.90 which consists of egg, prawn, corn, & mushroom tempura. It was just the right texture and savoury. Also like the WhiteFish Tendon $10.90 which was crispy and tender. Both the California Maki & Udon Set $12.90 and Kariage Chicken Udon set $12.90 was however average and a tad salty. All set comes with Chawamushi.
The karaage was not crispy and was soggy possibly due to it being immersed in the broth of the Tori Karaage Don ($8.90). The chicken in the Unagi & Tori Tamago Don ($10.90) had a smell and the unagi had many bones making it unsuitable for kids to eat. The Hokkaido Butter Corn Chasyu Ramen ($12.90) tasted average and the chasyu was bland and tough. Could have been better.
The mackeral fish is simmered with miso and toppled with green beans and brinjal. Fish is tender and the taste of miso is not too salty but flavourful. However, beware the bones while feeding children. Popular with children including the picky eaters. We give it a thumbs up!
