A really old school coffeeshop.
It was pretty crowded when we arrived, but we managed to get a seat in 10mins. Ordered a kaya toast set, with eggs and a cup of hot kopi. Hmm... I don't think this place is very fantastic, the kaya butter toast was not bad, it was alright. Eggs were normal. The kopi was not bad though. Maybe the only reason why I would come back again is for the old school vibe. It really feels like you're back in time. They don't even have a menu! Hahaha!

SMOKED SALMON & EGGS ($17.90)

Buttermilk waffles had to hard carry this dish🧇, thank god they were huge. Here’s why:

- The salmon & egg mayo proved to be a combination too mushy🥴. For the price, I would have expected the fillings to be more generous too.

- The hard mushrooms obviously weren’t soaked long enough.

Tad disappointed. It didn't look and have what the menu claims. The fruits (kiwi & banana) and acai were icy... so mass produced and kept in fridge? The white powder is ??? Definitely not the coconut flakes as mentioned in the menu. After mixing, everything is camouflage by the same-colour coconut husk looking bowl. I cant even see where i should scoop. And where are my pumpkin seeds?

It may be a simple dish with few ingredients, but the depth of flavours is charmingly complex. @tipsypenguinsg crabmeat capellini ($16++) is built on appetising al dente capellini surrounded by a moat of luscious lobster bisque, and finished with an ample amount of crabmeat and a little bit of ikura (salmon roe).⠀

Tipsy Penguin’s menu describes this dish as ‘generous flakes of crabmeat tossed in homemade lobster bisque & ikura. We are not kidding when we say generous’. Well, they took the words right outta my mouth. Y’all see that abundance of honest to goodness crabmeat? Yeah, they deserve to toot their own horn, cause they ain’t lying about the amount of crab in the dish.⠀

The lobster bisque was fully loaded with unctuous umami, balanced with a little sweetness & brininess for maximum flavour force. It made for a perfect stock for the fresh crab & pasta, and the little bursts of salt from the explosive ikura serves to heighten the sublime sapidity of the lobster bisque.⠀

When I say that the crabmeat capellini from @tipsypenguinsg is seriously scintillating, there ain’t no bullcrab in that declaration.

Highlight of our meal! The musselz were very fresh, huge and juicy!! The curry is exactly what Scaled staff mentioned, somewhere between chinese and indian curry, absolutely delicious that we even top up another serving of the mantous to dip in the curry😋😋

Love their ice-cream.. had a good pistachio flavour and wasnt too sweet. The apple crumble came in a tart form and had a nice crisp. The apples carried a tinge of sour which balanced out all the flavours (though one of my friends thought they were too sour). Yum!

Wouldn't mind coming back to try their high tea or mains as the cafe has a cosy vintage vibe.

Rosti with Smoked Salmon, $22. Crispy Golden Rosti, with Sunny egg & Smoked Salmon. Perfect Sunday breakfast!! SUPER DELICIOUS!!

Thanks @where.is.karl for sharing these limited edition bakes and brighten up everybody’s mood in times like these. These buns smell amazing and taste even better with each bite, especially when you give it a generous spread of the butter. Filled generously with raisins, these are the perfect sweet treats with a cup of tea.

📍 Firebake - Woodfired Bakehouse & Restaurant
237 East Coast Road, Singapore 428930

At the crossroads of Jalan Besar and Kitchener Road lies this famous scissors cut curry rice joint that you should put your diet plans aside for. Come here with a plan to indulge and choose your ingredients with reckless abandon. Get the staff to pile your plate high with the classics — deep-fried pork chops, braised pork belly, ngoh hiang, fried egg and braised cabbage — before watching them cut the ingredients swiftly into bite-sized pieces with their scissors. Be sure to get your plate drenched with thick, flavourful curry that isn't spicy or overpowering, just how our Tastemaker Zhihui Lim enjoys it.
Avg Price: $5 per person

While its competitor with the same name located at Foch Road might seem more crowded, this original stall along Jalan Besar Road is where you should head to for a satisfying bowl of pig organ soup. The Burpple community and Tastemaker Zhihui Lim prefer this stall's broth for its lighter, more balanced kiam chye flavour. Swing by for the Pig Organ's Soup (from $4) that comes loaded with lean meat, liver, innards, pork balls and silky tofu. Be sure to add on a side of Mei Cai ($2.50) to share. Instead of white rice, go for the Lu Rou Fan (braised pork belly on rice, $1.80) — it pairs excellently with the refillable soup and is another reason why you should come here instead of the Foch Road stall!

Dynasty Famous Fried Porridge, Small $7, Large $15. Ordered a large one for 3 pax to share and portion was perfect! This claypot of sizzling popping hot fried porridge is beyond our expectation! Texture is a little towards sticky which we like and it has alot of ingredients in it too, like slices of meat, shrimp, dried fried squid, taro, leek, fried onions, shallots and cubes of pork lard! Super delicious and so irresistible, we scrap off every single bits of it! .

Spent a total of 45 mins waiting for my order of 1 plain and 2 egg prata. One of the better prata places in Singapore but not amazing.
