If all of a sudden you’re having a Peranakan attack while shopping at ION, you might come here. The food is not bad. Otherwise, for a really satisfying experience, go to the Violet Oon at the National Gallery, or the Peranakan at nearby Claymore Connect, or Candlenut at Dempsey for a modern twist. They also serve non-Nonya dishes like shepherds pie. Ambiance and service are more casual Café style than restaurant.
This is the new casual outlet of the Blue Ginger. Shorter menu (unfortunately, they don’t have one of my Nonya favs, Nasi Ulam) and less traditional, homey décor. Prices also seem lower, although am not sure. The food is good, but if you really wish to savour the best of Peranakan, there are better places. Like Violet Oon at National Gallery, Candlenut st Dempsey, the Peranakan at Claymore Connect, or even the original Blue Ginger itself.
