really think this is one of the best sushi places around sg!! for an affordable enough price, you get extremely fresh and thick slices of sushi fish, and the rice to fish ratio is 💯💯, where you get nice chunks of fish with every bite (unlike other places where it’s more rice than anything else). even though they sell their sushi by one piece, which may result in your overall bill being more expensive, i think it’s worth it for the quality you are getting, and it also leaves you with more stomach space to try other items from their wide menu selection!! great place will definitely be back, bonus: there’s free green tea if you spend more than $10 lol
$17.80 // a really generous portion of (extremely fresh) seafood cubes (including salmon, tuna, octopus, prawns) which was layered with more than sufficient wasabi mayonnaise. (spicy, but sooo good) served on a bowl of hot japanese rice which had some shoyu sauce on it and it’s topped with some ikura, which adds more to the flavour if your taste buds need a break from all the spice. such a good dish!! but also really filling (and i wasn’t able to finish it zzz)
$9.90 // ok i guess this is kinda pricey since all you get is base and salmon (whereas at other places u normally get some toppings as well) but wowww the flavor really made up for the steeper price tag !!!! who knew mala and mentaiko go well together but they certainly do, in a perfect blend of savory and spicy. the fish was also seared well and the portion quite generous i feel. and the yuzu ume brown rice’s slightly sour profile served as a slight palate cleanser whenever the sauce felt too rich (even though it was kinda disappointing that the rice wasn’t japanese rice) overall, was it pricey? yes, but i think the salmon made up for it and i wouldn’t mind eating this again!!
$15 // opted for a non-ramen option in a place famous for their ramens are zero regrets!!! they were so generous with the sauce and salmon slices, that each perfectly torched salmon slice was enveloped in the creamy, umami mentaiko sauce. + the rice was somewhat smoked as well, probably from smoking the salmon slices and it just made the dish so much more delectable!! normally try to avoid eating rice but this was well worth all the calories ‼️‼️ 10/10 recommend
$13 // super generous portion of torched salmon cubes with fluffy japanese rice, blended in with their special soy sauce for the rice --- quite the delightful meal!! ((only thing confusing about this was the dark brown cubes u can see in the pic, they were somewhat like soy sauce jelly, v strange but maybe u are supposed to mix it in with the rice?? oh wellz)
loved the minimalistic japanese-style interior in this open concept restaurant and it was great that they provided free iced water and there was no gst/service charge!!
loved how my items came in such earthy japanese interior design worthy cutlery - really added to my matcha cafe experience lol (!)
lavender earl grey mille crepe // $8.50 // never really tried mille crepe cakes before so for a first timer, i would assume this fits the criteria of a decently good mille crepe cake. fluffy lavender chantilly cream paired with thin crepes made this a pleasantly palatable dessert, without the stuffed feeling after. i felt like the lavender flavor was very strong (which may be a problem if you don’t have a preference for floral type flavors) and overpowered the earl grey flavor. couldn’t rly taste any earl grey tbh, so you should only get this if you’re craving something floral and not if you want to satiate any earl grey cravings.
rose + matcha macarons // $3 each // the flavors were very intense for both macarons, which was great but the biscuit shells were a bit too crunchy for my liking as i prefer my macarons to be more chewy in the center. may be better to have your macarons elsewhere
hojicha tea // $4.50 // expensive for a single cup of tea, but with such precision in brewing and authentic roasted green tea taste, i guess it was worth it
overall, i’d come back to matchaya but maybe next time i’d stick with their ice creams instead.
$16 // pan-fried chicken cutlet (which was rly juicy and not dry at all) covered in garlic brown butter sauce, mushrooms and an onsen egg on top of fragrant japanese rice!! mix it all up together for the best combination of savoury with hints of teriyaki sweetness in each bite 🤤🤤
