Fourth (or fifth) time at Punch but my first time trying their earl grey pancakes I’ve heard so much about! It was pretty impressive, and the serving portion was huge, with a stack of three fluffy, freshly made pancakes. The batter was soft and slightly fluffy, though it bordered on the sticky side. The earl grey taste could be a little stronger as well, but then again I’m a huge earl grey and tea lover so I may be too much of a critic. Overall I really enjoyed this sweet brunch option and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a hearty dose of brunch pancakes.

Weekender eggs: Poached eggs with smoked salmon, ikura & hollandaise on toasted brioche ($19). We really enjoyed this dish! The poached eggs were perfectly done, and the hollandaise was thick and flavourful. The thin apple slices were a nice touch to give a fresh tangy flavour as well! I’d definitely recommend this, along with the earl grey pancakes and the smashed avocado.

Tried the banana bread and the cinnamon roll but both were disappointing. The banana bread had a promising texture, as it was soft and moist inside and had a pretty smooth bite. However, the banana bread lacked some flavour and tasted pretty bland. The cinnamon roll was way too hard for my liking - it was really difficult to bite into it and the cinnamon flavour wasn’t particularly impressive as well. I’ve just returned from Paris and London, so maybe I had too high expectations after tasting all the great bakes there. But for the prices they charge, I think the bakes could definitely be better.

First time at Starter Lab on a weekday afternoon and boy was it packed. Prices are pretty high ($14 for these two small pieces of mascarpone on sourdough) and though this tasted good, I find it hard to justify a return trip as the portions are small and food here is expensive. Worth a try if you’re in the area, or you can buy some fresh sourdough bread home.

The scrambled eggs here were delightfully creamy and piping hot, and the portobello was huge. We added on a homemade sausage and it was pretty good too! The only part that disappointed was the bread - it tasted rather dry and powdery. Maybe a soft fluffy brioche or a nicely toasted sourdough would be better?

I had the red crabmeat pasta and it turned out rather disappointing, especially after I read some really good reviews of this dish on burpple before visiting. I felt that while the crabmeat portion served was decent and the linguine was done perfectly al dente, what was disappointing was the sauce. The sauce was too tangy and tasted strongly of tomatoes, with hardly any crab flavour. The sauce could also be much more creamy, as I found it veering towards the thin side. If you’re looking for crabmeat pastas that are creamier and thicker, other casual, similarly priced joints such as Da Paolo, La Nonna or Rookery serve up some pretty good ones.

This dish here at Eleven Strands is high on my list for best beef cheeks I’ve tried. The beef is incredibly tender and soft, having been slow cooked overnight and marinated well. The accompanying mash and sautéed potatoes were great too. The food here is really value for money, especially with burpple beyond’s 1 for 1. Food was served really promptly as well!

This was simply amazing. Cheddar-chive scrambled eggs oozing onto the plate, spicy aioli, caramelised onions, back-bacon, brioche bun, mini hashbrowns by the side. We loved every bit of this main! Apollo’s interior is also really gorgeous, I really loved the interior design. Will be back for sure! This is definitely the best cafe in the kovan & serangoon area.

Favorite cold brew in the history of cold brews. Rich, thick, nutty and robust - I never thought cold brews could be this good until I tried this. Love the lively weekend vibe of this place and their coffee offerings - we also tried their nitro cold brew (on the left) and it tasted a little like coffee stout. Definitely one of the best coffee spots in Singapore!

We had the breakfast burger which was really good - oozy, creamy scrambled eggs, grilled buns, bacon - all essential breakfast ingredients that went together really well. I had the avo on toast which was tasty but ordinary. The toast and avocado slices tasted a little plain and could use some more flavour. Smashed avo could be a better alternative!

Can’t count the number of times I’ve come here just for their coffee - I’ve been coming here since they were Dancing Goat specialty coffee, and even now after they’ve rebranded (the coffee stayed exactly the same, still crazy good). We always get the iced white and it’s really strong and packs a punch with a ton of flavour and that caffeine kick. Truly a hole in the wall, but definitely not one to be trifled with.

We had two cups of hot flat white with burpple beyond’s one for one. The coffee was fragrant and slightly nutty, but not as strong as I would like - although it’s most likely a personal preference, as I prefer my coffee strong, with a good kick. I’d recommend dropping by for a cup of coffee here if you find yourself in town - it’s really worth it with burpple beyond!
