a one person portion of innards soup, salted veg, rice came up to a relatively affordable and hearty (no pun intended) meal at $6.50. Old school and no frills. Can see why this is popular among the older population, though I personally prefer a more complex herbal twist in my black bak kut teh.

I love bar cicheti to so when i heard an ex chef had started his own stall, just had to give it a try. Yet another case of high expectations not being met. I mean it’s a decent carbonara by hawker standards, but cutting costs means you get the usual creamy pasta without the decadent richness of yolks and parmesan. Pork lard lends an interesting twist and was fragrant albeit rather tasteless.

Not your usual hawker center cockles, these are almost twice the size which make for a great mouthfeel. It’s also slightly undercooked so it’s briney and clammy, just the way I like it.

Nothing new about hearing of a young chef leaving a one-Michelin-star restaurant to start a hawker stall. But steam fish at a hawker center? That’s something I got to try. The fish was fresh and cooked perfectly, though I felt the sauce could have had more oomph. But at a fraction of what you’ll pay for at a restaurant, I really can’t complain.

One of my favourite no-queuing-required MLGX. Dont even try to ask for less oil as the feisty lady at the stall will tell you she can't make that. Less oily but no less flavourful, also really affordable with this pile costing less than $15.

This place was made famous by its amoy street hawker stall. Just a really decent bowl of fishball noodles with nice bouncy fishballs and savoury soup. Noodles and the sauce were average, personally I'd dump in more vinegar so they wouldn't clump. And by the way I didnt spot the purported 2nd gen hawker hunk whos owns the place.

Have been meaning to try this chee cheong fun that's made fresh on the spot, and it didn't disappoint. These rice rolls were silky smooth, almost horfun-ish. Option of adding egg too. Help yourself to that delicious chai poh on the side.

Got straw mushroom, a couple of vegetables and maggie mee. The star is definitely the rich and creamy salted egg sauce. So good that we were mopping up all that cholesterol goodness after emptying the bowl.

Such a delicious and hearty bowl of hand pulled noodles in meaty sauce. The red oil dumplings ft. in the background is another favourite. This I would brave the queues and heat for.

My favourite version of meat dumplings because the skin's silky smooth, and the piquant sauce just makes it so much more appetising.

Im not comparing this with the dumplings at more upmarket places, but have had better versions at other hawker centres. The ones here were a little overcooked and the fillings contained too much fatty lardy bits. Can see how some people may enjoy it though.

Still my favourite kaya toast because only this uncle takes the effort to toast and toast and toast again until it becomes biscuit-like crispy. Also the amount of kaya and butter is just right to still let you appreciate the fragrane of their toasted bread.

This is about as delicious as wanton mee gets, although technically a Kolo (rather than wanton mee) i.e. the noodles are thicker and very curly with an eggy taste similar to my other favourite (Jiji). Also loved that it comes with many many toppings and each of them so generously portioned, like that fat stuffed dumpling, chunky char siew, and slab of pork rib. Yums.
