Cakes! 🍰🎂🍭🎉
Hvala, ooh na-na...half of my heart is in THIS GOMA CAKE!!! Words simply can’t describe the raw richness that this simple slice exudes, but I’ll try my best! Think moist, spongy layers of chiffon sandwiching a cream filling that is all at once earthy and nutty, rounded off by a gritty texture made possible only by the inclusion of real black sesame seeds. The layering creates a harmony that grants each bite adequate richness that - at the same time - does not overwhelm. In contrast, their 1925 cold brew is a light and slightly bitter tea with lilting floral notes that linger on your tongue - when ordered in tandem with the former, the set is undeniably a killer combination, embodying the essence of an exquisite afternoon tea!😚
P.S.: 1925 cold brew price may be wrong, no hatin’ on my poor memory pls💖
They didn’t have their matcha muffins today, so I opted for the next most interesting option: their banana bread! This thick slice had a toasty browned crust covering a soft pillowy core comprising just the right amount of banana. The insides were so spongy, it soaked up every drop of the espresso-tinged glob of butter! A simple offering which provided good company for the time spent studying here 😋
Known for their dessert menu which changes depending on the ongoing exhibitions, it seems the one staple that remains popular no matter the season is the ondeh ondeh cake. Sandwiched between aromatic layers of fluffy pandan sponge, the generous spread of gula melaka provides both sweetness and crunch - a truly on point tribute to ondeh ondeh! However, I felt that the bland cream coating the exterior added a sickly fullness that stuck to the tongue and detracted from the overall taste. This cake can be enjoyed as it is, but there’s certainly room for improvement! 😊
Incredibly impressed by cedele’s refreshing take on the conventional cheesecake. Each bite comes with a mellow citrus-y kick that diffuses through the other constituents and rounds off the taste nicely. The entire slice - though minuscule in comparison to the other flavors - was savoured down to the last crumb!
On the other hand, the chocolate cake was rather bland. Sponge was dry and espresso barely discernible; the thick mushy banana layer overwhelmed all in terms of texture and taste.
Having tried some of their other offerings, it’s fair to conclude that their items are hit and miss. But I’ll definitely be back to sift out the gems!
The soft, spongy espresso-soaked sponge with a hint of kahlua...sandwiched between layers of creamy mousse...and topped with an abundance of cocoa...all enjoyed within the lush and luxurious setting of Prego.... ahhh, I need more dinner dates like this again!!
