The cod fish was soft and flaky, but it was the delectable dashi leek cream sauce that truly elevated this dish!
Tender and flavourful braised angus beef cheek, paired with creamy risotto that wasn’t too cloying! Yums!
The octopus was cooked perfectly, with a nice firm texture! Together with the creamy butternut squash puree, crunchy squid ink cracker and savoury smoked bacon ragout, everything combined delightfully!
This was from a couple of months ago but glad to have finally cleared Korio’s sandwiches off my makan list after KIV-ing it for so long!
Both sandwiches we got were good! The respective breads (one brioche, one sourdough) were grilled till super crisp; the Breakfast Sammy ($13) was savoury, creamy and really moreish, while the Caprese Grilled Cheese ($15) had a good balance of flavours - we liked how the caramelised onions and marinated tomatoes added a touch of sweetness to the rich, salty cheese!
Will certainly be back again to try their other sandwiches!
If you are around the CBD area and looking to satisfy your sandwich cravings, you can check out Absurd Sandwiches. With 10 different sandwiches on their menu, you’ll certainly be spoiled for choice. Here’s what we tried recently:
~The Cubano (sliced pork belly, cured ham, pickles, provolone cheese, mustard, absurd sauce)
~The Crispy Chipotle (chipotle fried chicken, pickles, romaine lettuce, roma tomatoes, spicy dressing, absurd sauce)
~The Cheesesteak (thin-sliced ribeye,
caramelised onion, cheddar, absurd sauce)
I personally enjoyed The Crispy Chipotle the most among the trio, and The Cheesesteak was pretty yummy as well! We also had their Mentaiko Fries, which came with generous amount of torched mentaiko sauce!

bamboo bowls has recently opened its first contactless store in Singapore, serving eight fast, healthy and sustainable Asian bowls created by renowned chefs! Here are some fast facts about their bowls:
✅50% organic
✅100% sugar-free
✅100% unprocessed & unrefined
✅Ethically sourced meat
✅Low-carb alternatives
And there’s no compromise on affordability or flavour too!
The ordering process is seamless - just order via the bamboo bowls app and collect your food from one of the designated pods. We tried the Sichuan (by Chef Jowett Yu) and Bangkok (by Chef Justin Hammond) bowls, and both were enjoyable in their own respective ways! The former was packed with familiar Szechuan flavours (although I personally feel it could have been spicier), while the latter was really tasty with the ingredients mixed in the aromatic red coconut curry! You can pair the bowls with their complimentary Japanese Sencha w/ Ume & Cherry Blossom, or their range of zero sugar sparkling water as well!
Love their interior space with its minimalistic and chill setting too. I can definitely see myself returning to try their other bowls (eyeing the Singapore one) if I’m in the CBD area in future. FYI: To celebrate its official launch, the bamboo bowls team will treat everyone who downloads the app to one free bowl – valid for 1 month from date of download.

We had an enjoyable dinner here last week, where we tried out a few of their signature dishes!
I’m not exaggerating when I say that each dish was great and exceeded our expectations! From the fork-tender Beef Redang, to the Cumi Bali (charcoal-grilled squid) that was well-grilled and so tender, the Ayam Sate Madura that blew our minds (or rather tastebuds) with its flavour, and the comforting taste of the Sayur Lodeh, everything was on point! We paired all these dishes nasi padang-style with yellow rice and their signature sambal belacan that was shiok and fiery! Had to wash all that down with a Fresh Coconut and Lime Juice!
We definitely recommend this place if you are looking for an Indonesian restaurant in the CBD area. The prices are slightly steep, but the food is definitely worth the money for its quality!
Here is the Mixed Pao Fan, which consists of ingredients like seafood (prawns, clams & mixed Fish), bittergourd, fried egg floss & sprinkles of fried rice puffs. The broth here wasn’t the super ‘gao’ kind that I was initially expecting, but rather a lighter but still really flavourful kind of broth that I really enjoyed! The seafood were also really fresh and went really well with the tangy Thai chilli sauce!
Are you team cooked food or raw food? Have a choice of either with Kuro Maguro’s 2 seasonal sets that are only available till 31st May 2020!
Being a huge fan of raw seafood, i chose the Kaisen Chirashi Meshi Set which was an assortment of raw seafood in a bowl, with Anago, Salmon, Maguro, Kanpachi, Negitoro, Crab Meat, Ikura, Prawn & Mussel! This was so enjoyable, as everything was so fresh & delicious! For those that prefer cooked food, you can go for their Premium Well-Done Set that is also priced at $19.80++.
Each set comes with Chicken Karaage, Chawanmushi, Miso Soup & fruit and it’s available for both dine in and takeaway as well.
Throwback to a really good and filling hotpot dinner with a friend few weeks ago at @city_hot_pot’s Guoco Tower outlet where we had the set meal for 2 pax (Set B)
The set comes with fresh ingredients like Wagyu Chuck Eye Roll, Prawn Paste, Pork Collar, Fish Fillet, Prawns and more. Plus we get to choose a staple each (we both chose the braised pork rice for an additional top up of $1).
There are a total of 15 soup bases to choose from, with options like Fish Maw Fish Soup (my favourite!), Fish Soup with Milk, Prawn Soup, Herbal Fish Soup and more! Another plus point is that each customer gets an individual hotpot with 2 soup bases each, which is definitely a much more hygienic concept.
Overall, i’d definitely recommend this hotpot place for its fresh ingredients, delicious soup bases & value for money set meals!
Ya Lor, which has recently opened at the basement of Guoco Tower (next to Tanjong Pagar mrt), is a collaboration between Pezzo Pizza, Crave Nasi Lemak & Sia Kee Duck Rice (Geylang Lor 35).
The Signature Braised Duck Rice comes with braised duck (obviously), braised peanuts, bean sprouts, braised egg and beancurd along with rice and soup. Taste wise, it was a decent plate of braised duck rice; the braised sauce was thick and flavourful but a tad on the sweet side and i suspect lots of msg was used too as i felt very thirsty after my meal. The braised duck was quite tender while the other side dishes were not bad too (although nothing in particular really stands out). Besides rice, there are other options like noodles or porridge too.
Overall, with its price point kept relatively cheap for CBD area standards, Ya Lor is certainly a decent and affordable dining option in the area.
Roast Paradise has established a reputation as serving one of the best char siews in Singapore at their Old Airport Road Food Center outlet, and i’m glad to say that the standard at Lau Pa Sat is the same. The charred meats which were caramelised to perfection were very tender and were melt-in-your-mouth yummy!
They also offer a decent Roast Pork and Rose Essence Soya Sauce Chicken in their menu too. You can pair your meats with choice of their Hakka Noodles or rice (I personally prefer the noodles!).
