Slight bitter coffee flavours from the cream in the middle! The Nama choc had a strong choc flavour too! Although I forgot to take a photo of the side with the Nama Chocolate before I started eating 🥺.
Definitely worth a try, and I would love to try their taro swissroll next time once it's ready again!
Liked that the cream was light but matcha was a bit more to the floral side, because they use Taiwanese powder which was supposed to have some Jasmine notes! The Matcha Nama choc provided a slightly stronger flavour, but this would still be up to personal preference for floral Matcha!
Xin Shan Bakery has opened their first outlet in Singapore, with the other outlets in Malaysia! It's located at Mount Austin & Horizon Hill in Msia, but you can easily find their Singapore stall just outside Hock Wong Bakkwa, a few minutes walk from Chinatown Exit A!
🌟 Hojicha (Hojicha Nama Chocolate)
Before I talk about the flavours, would like to start with their swiss rolls, which were all equally soft, light and fluffy! The Nama choc also pretty much melts in your mouth! Hojicha here was strong, and the Nama choc pretty much melts!! Addition of roasted nuts as toppings were also a good flavour add.
Always wanted to try Medovik (which is actly a classic Russian honey cake), but first time seeing somewhere that sells this so I had to try it. Their "cake layers" (honey biscuit) were surprisingly really soft and moist, and the cream layer actually tasted more like they added cream cheese (?), instead of what is meant to be whipped sour cream. Cream was actly pretty fragrant though, just that it's too sweet for my liking we didn't manage to finish it.
Wouldn't mind being back to try the other croissants tho - heard the savouries are good and they are honestly super huge unlike the usual croissant sizes, just that the sweet bakes are too much on the sweeter side for me.
They use Dajia Taro to make this extremely soft and moist taro sponge cake, together with housemade taro filling and very minimal taro chunks! Taro paste was slightly sweet, but extremely easy to eat because of how soft the cake was, with pretty smooth filling as well.
You can defo taste the taro, altho as someone who loves bold flavours, I'd defo love for the taro flavours to pack a stronger punch 🤭. Personally would love more taro chunks, but some may prefer a smoother paste like this one. It's also kinda small for $15, but I guess they're using quality ingredients for this so!

Chocolate Nut Doorstop
This is literally a crazy rich Chocolate cake worth getting a sorethroat for. Let's start with the top - malted milk chocolate balls (aka maltesers) on top of rich chocolate mousse that's actually slightly lighter to help balance the textures, but it's in no way light in flavour. Followed by an extremely hard layer of nuts that's almost impossible to cut through, but when you finally do, it's pretty worth it. The nuts (pecans, walnuts, almonds) are doused with some caramel sauce, and I loved how the flavours come together. Finally, you have the sponge cake layer that's pretty much supporting all the goodness above it. Definitely an indulgent treat I wouldn't mind having once - but don't forget to drink up because this choc cake is not just here to play.

Had pretty high expectations from their cakes considering I've had their ondeh ondeh cake before which was really moist and fragrant, this Pure Matcha Cake was sadly a little disappointing.
The cake was slightly dry, and the cream did make up for it a little, but it did remind me of Green Tea KitKat's kind of "Matcha", except that it's not that sweet here.
Would probably try their other cakes in future and hopefully this is just a one-off.
[MOD Cafe]
On the outside, you'd see pretty pink walls with swings for you to sit around and take photos for the gram; there's also a MOD Salon just beside the cafe. Got to note that it's a really small cafe, so when we arrived it was full house so we chose to sit outside to enjoy our afternoon treat.
Service was pretty good, so it was quite an enjoyable experience overall. The cheesecake honestly had nothing much to shout about though, the texture is good, it's pretty soft, but it's just a normal cheesecake with slightly too thin biscuit base for my liking. Would have loved for the base to be more fragrant & flavourful as well.

As part of their 8-course meal, these 2 desserts - Tiramisu & Sticky Date Pudding were unfortunately quite dry. Ice-cream from the sticky date pudding was decent, and the puddle of caramel sauce did help a little with the dryness, but still insufficient.
The cake was pretty fluffy and I tend to have experiences with earl grey flavoured food having a "too strong" aftertaste, however the taste of this Earl Grey Swiss Roll was just right. It was not too sweet as well. Recommended if you want something light as dessert and good to be paired with a hot cup of tea.
Ambience was good, it's a very good spot to chill at and enjoy the free WiFi there.
