Masizzim located at 313@Somerset and Westgate, has introduced a NEW weekday lunch menu that is pretty affordable, starting from $10.90++ for a set.
For the Masizzim Lunch Sets, each includes a main course, a bowl of seaweed soup and two pieces of Korean pancakes.
The highlight to me is the Kimchi Fried Rice, which includes fragrant mixed-grain rice fried with kimchi for the slight spicy-tangy flavour within.
While most versions of fried rice come with egg fried within, the Masizzim Kimchi Fried Rice is served on a hotplate with rice in the middle surrounded by a ring of egg.

I never knew that honey mustard could go so perfectly well with eggs. It definitely lent a sweet note to the cheesy and buttery soft-scrambled interior. Achieving this utterly creamy texture must be no easy feat!

The Cheesy Rice ($9.80) was pretty scrumptious as well. The addition of nori not only imparted an interesting texture, it also made the kimchi rice deliciously fragrant. Served in a small hot stone pot, the rice retained its heat and bits of rice were even crispy towards the end.

Mac & cheese ($15.80)
It is one of the best cafes' Mac & cheese I've tasted! The sauce was rich but not cloying, and the macaroni was addictively chewy. The top of the dish was also seared to provide a smokey dimension to the dish. All I could ask for would be bacon instead of ham.
Clams in white wine sauce ($14.80)
The clams were sizable and juicy and went well with the garlicky white wine sauce. Note that the sauce has a noticeably bitter aftertaste though.

🤔: The gnocchi was chewy and paired well with the sauce. However, it didn't really wow my friend and I. Love that the vegetables in the dish had different textures, making the dish more multidimension.
One of my favourite dishes that we tried the other night at Skukuu Izakaya is this torched vinegared mackerel.
With a tender texture, one bite just wasn't enough and we quickly polished off every slice.
