🌸🐉Viet Dac Biet 🇻🇳🐣
The most overlooked and understated Vietnam food establishment in Singapore. Their banhmi buns are crispy on the outside, soft yet with a good bite on the inside. The pate, ham and pickles are generous and fresh.
Street food is still best eaten in the streets...
Chicken pho at its best! So glad I manage to relocate this place. Didn't get the message across to have more chicken skin though. They used 走地鸡 which means free-range chicken (but I saw a translation on the blog as "walking chicken" which is hilarious) hence even for breast meat, it's kind of chewy and give lots of bite. The broth is what makes this the perfect breakfast option in Hanoi. Generous free herbs in piping hot clear chicken broth. Throw in some freshly cut chili for that additional lip smacking shiokness. This is so simple and yet so good. If you do a bit of research on this pho ga shop, you will find that their pho is more expensive than most other places. A bowl like this with the eggs (see my other post) and chrysanthemum tea cost VND80 (just below SGD5) which is high by local standards.
Scrambled, fried, poached, sunny side up, how would you like your eggs done, sir? I would choose this over all of the above, any day! The egg yolk is wholesome and has that rich orange goodness with just a whisk of egg white along in the broth. This is super food for me.
One for the road, at the airport. In case you've missed this famous street noodle dish, grab it at the airport, you won't regret!
Special beef pho, with all the nice sliced beef, brisket and beef ball. There is even a raw egg which you can stir in or eat it raw whole as I did. The stock is a little too busy with the flavours, but perhaps it's my recent preference of pho ga (chicken) over pho bo (beef). 4 star pho, not bad by singapore standard. Still missing my Melbourne bowl of pho ga dac biet.
