I’ve been revisit Hilton Kuala Lumpur many years. Afternoon Tea was initially serve at The Lounge but due to recent mishap event, The Lounge is currently under renovation. Sad enough to say this was probably the least appetising Tea Set they ever have.

For savoury items on the set consists of Homemade Black pepper braised beef pie, smoked turkey and cheese sandwich, spiced chicken and corn in mini bagel, tomato mozzarella with fresh basil focaccia. The pie was probably the only item that tasted decent. Others were bland and the bread were hard.

For the sweet items, there is freshly baked scones, honey lemon cupcake, Vanilla Unicorn cupcake, porcupine chocolate cupcake and rose red velvet cupcake. The sweet items was a let down. The cupcakes aren’t fresh and hard. One of the faux pas in an afternoon Tea is to serve scones with whipped cream.

Trust Xiao by crustz if you’re looking for a decent patisserie to have for tea break. The Pear Vanilla is a refreshing fruity treat. Buttery Breton Sablé topped with vanilla crémeux, pear compote with pear jelly surrounded by a chocolate crown. RM17 per piece.

The Welcome bites and savoury items from their afternoon tea set are surprisingly better than sweet items. While the classic roasted beef sandwich with Horseradish sauce is tasty, the beetroot macaron with House cured salmon and sour creme is a unique combination.

Welcome items: Garden Herb Garlic tuile, Rosemary coral tuile and lobster cone.

Savoury items:
1. Foie gras delight: pancake coated foie gras with Banyuls shallots.
2. Land meets Sea: beetroot macaron with House cured Atlantic Salmon and sour creme.
3. The Cracker: crab meet grissini, ginger & Lemongrass, curry Cappuccino.
4. The Seawave: Sea urchin creme with sliced Granny Smith and shaved Bottarga.
5. The Classic: Roasted beef sandwich with Horseradish sauce.

An unconventional yet innovative afternoon tea at Altitude by Austrian Chef Alexander Waschl. Those who wish to lounge in a relaxing ambience, high ceiling interior with glittery lightings and impressive backdrop of the city skyline might enjoy this sky high afternoon tea at the newly opened Banyan Tree KL.

Their afternoon tea set is served accordingly from Welcome(canapés), to Savoury and lastly Sweets. You can choose from a selection of Harney & Sons fine tea or coffee to pair with it. While the presentation seems promising, I find it lack of dept when it comes to taste and the portions were rather small like canapés for cocktails. I find their buttery mini scones quite good as they taste like the real deal but not satisfying enough since each of them is a bite size full.

Sweet items:
1. Briolette bites: Raspberries & Violet mousse cake with 35% glazed white chocolate.
2. Mango passion fruit explosion: Passionfruit mousse with mango jelly green tea sponge.
3. Strawberry etton mess: Pastry cream with fresh strawberries, strawberry sauce, coconut meringue almond sponge.
4. Cherry Choc: Cherry mousse with cherry jelly, almond sponge and sea salt choc Sablés.
5. Pistachio macaroons.
6. Teh tarik choux choux: Choux pastry filled with Teh tarik pastry cream, chocolate hazelnut Gianduja molten heart.
7. Classic plain mini scones and cranberry mini scones.

Price at RM94 nett per person.

This freshly baked tart shell filled with vanilla pastry cream, white chocolate and fresh raspberries is delicately done, not overly sweet and perfect for Summer. RM18 per serving.

This August, Decadent introduces a new range of patisseries. One of the highlight is this Golden apple tart. Green apple mousse filled with apple insert and butterscotch sauce encased in a white chocolate shell topped on a buttery tart base. Though the 24k gold apple shell is slightly sweet but surprisingly the sour apple mousse goes well with the sauce. RM18 per piece.

If you can’t buy happiness, you definitely can buy desserts or a good slice of gâteau as they are pretty much close to it. 😅

Just before Tiny Temptress say Au Revoir to all fans out there, I decided to pop in for one last time to get my sweet tooth fixed. The jackfruit cheese mousse is soft and light, jackfruit and mango insert in the center gives you that bursting local fruits flavour on your palate topped on a almond sablé. Although I think the biscuit base was a bit hard, but overall this petit gâteau made out of local ingredients, love and passion is worth trying. Hurry up, catch them while you can before the end of the month. RM18.90 per slice.

Betjeman & Barton houses more than 250 varieties of premium tea ranging from classic white, green, black and red teas to blended teas infused with dried fruits, cocoa beans, herbs and florals.

The Salon de Thé at Pavilion is an upgrade from their previous premise with more spacious seating area, sophisticated and silver grey touches on the furnitures allows one to lounge around comfortably and enjoy a tête-à-tête over tea.

To complement the teas, they offer 3 kinds of all day afternoon tea sets with a wide assortment of taste sensations petit fours, hand made Belgium chocolates, English scones, afternoon sandwiches, macarons or tea infused gelato to pair with.

The Traditional Afternoon Tea Set allows you to refill unlimited sandwiches, scones and tea within the 90minutes seating. Personally, I enjoyed their fruit scones served with clotted cream and strawberry preserve. Asides that, the French Violette tart, pistachio financier, matcha passion fruit mousse cake, chicken ham and sweet mustard sandwich were equally good too! I opted for Fruits de Bambou herb tea to pair with the set. It is a blend of bamboo leaves, mango, apple bits, banana, pineapple, coconut, lemongrass, ginger, cinnamon and lemon myrtle. Fruity on the nose but surprisingly light on the palate.

The newly launch afternoon tea set at Four Seasons includes an array of delicate patisseries, canapés and sandwiches to enjoy with The Lounge Tropical Signature blend. It is a blend of black and green tea leaves enhanced by Tropical flavours like coconut, guava, Hibiscus, strawberry, Marigold and corn flowers. I personally love this tea as the fruitiness and floral taste pair so well with the sweet and savoury delicacies.

Some of the highlights of the savoury items include truffled egg salad in mustard seed soft roll and watercress, goat cheese with tomatoes on a toasted ash crostini topped with olive oil caviar, smoked salmon rolled in a whole wheat roulade with spinach and caviar (personal favourite) as well as carnation of chicken salad with fresh sprouts in a bun roll.

Afternoon tea Pâtisseries include “Snicker bar” made out of 66% Callebaut dark chocolate, passion and coriander Religieuse (puff), very berries fruit tart, blsck forest gâteau with Valrhona chocolate ganache, macaron with rose crème, dulce de lèche and raspberry . Not to forget their freshly baked plain and raisin scones that are serve with British Devonshire clotted cream, Lescure butter and homemade raspberries coulis.

Overall I think the afternoon tea set was well execute as I always trust the pastry chefs from Four Season ever since they open Decadent. Definitely worth trying! RM115 per person with unlimited refill of tea.
