Casual Dining
@workspaceespresso has opened a new outlet at Marina One. I like this space better. Tried some new options last week, the kimchi and the chap jae. Both were good.
This is one heck of a banh mi! One bite and it was love at first bite. Finally, one that measures up. The baguette is crusty on the outside and so soft inside, house made. The star of the show is the pork jowl! So melt in your mouth good. Marinated the Japanese way, imagine a really good char siu, just a million times better. Paired with Japanese cucumber pickles, jelly fish and purple shiso, this was really oishii. Chef Samuel is Japanese trained but he's spent time infusing in the street foods of Vietnam to come up with this. I would come back just alone for these banh mis.
@marusgdinebar thanks for hosting us and @burpple thanks for the kind invite. The cuisine at Maru's is interesting and for those who love Vietnamese and Japanese cuisines, you will love it here.
This will definitely be a crowd pleaser for those who like Uni. Here they used really good quality ones, akin fi the sushiyas and topped with caviar, ikura and truffle, this is one indulgent pasta.
I don't know how Chef Samuel does it but he makes a mean pork jowl. Full of flavour, juicy, with the right amount of balance between fatty parts and lean parts, this was truly a delight!
Grilled to perfection, these were tasty and tender inside. Perfect and you can just munch these away with your fav drink.
These mushrooms were stuffed with mentaiko potato and served with lotus root chips. Loved how creamy the shrooms were and the textural contrast the chips gave. Yummy!
The Spicy Salmon Tartare (SGD 32++) was truly an enjoyable snack. Served with crispy nori and marinated in miso and togarashi, it was yummy!
An explosion of flavours and textures. Nori wasabi, orange ponzu jelly, pomegranate, basil and shio kosho completed the tuna so well. This appetiser sure whetted our appetites and build our anticipation further for the coming courses.
Made from edamame, avocado and white miso, it was nicely paired with salted egg chips. Well, chips were a misnomer here as they were really crusty, crispy thin slices of baguettes, perhaps? Nevertheless, coated generously with salted egg yolk, they provided the perfect backdrop for the hummus.
Throwback to the night that we were already quite full after drinks at Spago and when we decided on Part II and succumbed to temptation! @nomadicexpat had told me how good @humpback.sg's Sunday brunch is but given I hardly eat oysters, I've not bothered to check it out. Till @nantheless corrected me and told me that they have an awesome selection of bites, we made our maiden visit. Boy, oh boy, a drink and some snacks turned out to be a feast! Started with the lobster Bloody Mary which one could clearly taste the lobster and it comes with a generous portion of lobster tail. The star of the show for me was the lobster roll, and it's super soft, slightly sweet and buttery buns. I would come back for these alone anytime! Nan, thanks for bringing us here and sharing with us your favs.
Cava, good conversations, great company paired with deviant middle eastern food from @artichoke_sg , recipe for a great evening!
