Japanese Saiko!! ๐ฑ๐๐
The aburi salmon went perfectly well with the creamy mentaiko sauce that was generously slathered all over the maki. Salmon was very nicely torched - very smooth and melts in your mouth. The addition of fried ebi as the filling added a nice crunch to each bite. Just a personal gripe - the mentaiko could have been a little spicier to give it an extra kick!
Stated as matcha "hotcake", it was more of a blown up lava cake as "unexpected" matcha flows when cut. Oozing matcha goodness match with chewy homemade dango, candied yuzu peel, ricotta cheese, speculoos crumbles and azuki bean, this dish is truly a delight. Felt it's too huge and sweet for me to finish alone, so best to share the calories with friends.
Instead of having the much talked-about Spicy Chilli Crab Tendon, I was more interested in Don Meijinโs Mille Feuille Katsu Don ($12.80). Layered with 14 slices of pork loin, the slab was a lovely golden-brown with a light yet crunchy crust served on a bed of savoury-sweet eggs. Stacked, breaded and fried, the marinated meat would have been even more perfect with thinner sheets and made more moist but the delicate layer of breading certainly made everything better (love the crunch of the crisp exterior). A very hearty bowl, I would recommend sharing it as it gets jelat.
Severely tempted by Spicy Salmon as well but we will have to try that next time along with the Warrior Maki (brown rice crab meat maki roll topped with salmon sashimi and garlic mayo + chicken floss) which was sold out today ๐ข Highly recommend the $2 miso soup too!! Best I've ever had - so sweet and generous with radish, carrots, salmon and mushrooms #burpple #dqky
By the good folks behind Standing Sushi Bar and Tanuki Raw comes this Donburi-focused stall. Located in 100AM, Salmon Samurai serves a great Salmon Bowl ($9.90) with fresh salmon brought in on a daily basis and only prepared a la order. There are four ways to have your salmon โ raw, poke, grilled or mentaiyaki (our Burpple Community's favourite). The latter sees smoky yet creamy mentai sauce flamed to perfection โ just like the stellar scallop mentaiyaki available at Standing Sushi Bar. Choose to have your salmon over a bed of udon, brown rice or salad and ask to top up with half an Avocado ($1.50), Onsen Egg ($1) or Ebiko ($1) if you want more flavour, although the bowl is satisfying enough on its own. Pro tip: Complete your donburi with a side of Salmon Miso Soup ($2) โ Burpple Tastemaker Justin Teo praises it for being great value, considering it comes chock full of soft salmon chunks and mushrooms.
Avg Price: $15 per person

Now, I wanna talk about this nicely seared, juicy hamburg patty from chef Keisuke Takeda's 12th venture, but I'm honestly too distracted by the FREE FLOW LIVE EGG STATION & THE NEVER-ENDING SALAD BAR! ๐ฅ
At this price, it's pretty amazing the amount of value they crammed into this set! There's a salad bar with over 20 items and a live egg station where you can get it in so many styles (scrambled, oozy sunny, tamagoyaki even!). You're definitely walking out of Teppanyaki Hamburg Nihonbashi Keisuke Bettei belly, belly full.
