POKE BOWL ($13.50)
(Quinoa, medium Shoyu Salmon, Cherry Tomato, Cucumber, pineapple, carrot, wakame with lime avocado add ons(+$1))
ā¢really good for sashimi lover
ā¢the salmon is well marinated that its not that fishy. Personally, I don't like raw fishes but I can still eat this
ā¢its quite a big bowl so its super filling
ā¢I just put all the vegetables to try but its so diverse I can't really take it
ā¢its a heavy meal
Personally, I won't come back
OMG. There is little queue on Friday night at this Circular Road outlet of @kohakutempura which has the best and legit tendon in SG. Not as crispy and wow as the Suntec outlet's but it's still better than the rest I've eaten.
The tuna belly is perfectly sliced, with a tinge of sweetness. As you chew on the tuna slice, close your eyes, appreciate it gradually dissolving in your mouth, sliding to the back of your throat. Close your eyes, the $5-a-piece tuna belly slice is now in your stomach. Yummy, as you showed off a huge grin on your face.
Oh I digressed. The wasabi pairs really well with the tuna belly. Strongly suspect that the wasabi is the real deal (i.e. Not horseradish; can someone verify?). The rice was really tasty, its temperature was perfect. Highly recommended!
This is my favourite bowl out of the four we tried!
I have to admit that I'm definitely biased as it stars a few of my favourite things: edamame, pickled ginger (!!) and tobiko.
Although slower, I'm amazed that they dress the fish cubes a la minute ā yes, bowl by bowl ā perfect for delicate tasting proteins like hamachi. I'm so glad they didn't put too much wakame, as that often tips the flavour balance off for me.
By the good folks behind Standing Sushi Bar and Tanuki Raw comes this Donburi-focused stall. Located in 100AM, Salmon Samurai serves a great Salmon Bowl ($9.90) with fresh salmon brought in on a daily basis and only prepared a la order. There are four ways to have your salmon ā raw, poke, grilled or mentaiyaki (our Burpple Community's favourite). The latter sees smoky yet creamy mentai sauce flamed to perfection ā just like the stellar scallop mentaiyaki available at Standing Sushi Bar. Choose to have your salmon over a bed of udon, brown rice or salad and ask to top up with half an Avocado ($1.50), Onsen Egg ($1) or Ebiko ($1) if you want more flavour, although the bowl is satisfying enough on its own. Pro tip: Complete your donburi with a side of Salmon Miso Soup ($2) ā Burpple Tastemaker Justin Teo praises it for being great value, considering it comes chock full of soft salmon chunks and mushrooms.
Avg Price: $15 per person
