Food In Switzerland
What an interesting mix of a Japanese sashimi with Mexican guacamole, which here they used avocados with mango salsa.
🔸
The dual color of the fish also got me curious, doesn't this look like salmon and tuna? And googling for the "char" fish made me realize that the fish has actually two colours. Maybe this explains the colour of the fish here?
I try to eat their local food as much as I can when I'm in Switzerland.
🔸
For this room service, I chose the Zurich style veal with gnocchi and mushrooms, and a Gianduja with orange strips and dark chocolate cream puff.
🔸
Nothing impressive here, but it's very calming to have a meal in the quiet comfort of your room, all by yourself.. especially on the last night before flying home.
Veal is found at many Swiss restaurants here, for reasons I do not know.
🔸
This isn't what I like, with no fault of the restaurant because I naturally do not like the texture of cheeks, even though cheeks are usually quite tender. Veal on the other hand lacks the beefy taste that I like.. Give me a standard beef, or better still, wagyu.. anytime!
This is lunch at 4000m above sea level, at the Swiss alps. One thing I noticed about Swiss food is that it is highly influenced by the Germans, and schnitzel is one of them.
🔸
This schnitzel is pounded, breaded, then fried. I like that it is pan fried till crispy with char, and still retained some juices within the schnitzel.
🔸
Personally, I don't find schnitzel to be very different from our "cutlet", except that schnitzel is usually thinner, and they offer a veal version of it as well. Now I'm thinking about our S$8 pork cutlet at our western stall in coffeeshops.
This is a prelude to my three course dinner at this restaurant here, which was recommended by the locals to be cheap and good.
🔸
I like this lovely and cute little thing that started the dinner. The beetroot mousse was creamy while the crayfish was marinate with intense umami flavours. And that green dollap at the side is actually wasabi cream. The flavours go well together!
And this price is only for the burger without fries and drink. I took this as a takeaway while trying to catch my train which was coming in 15 mins.
🔸
I'm actually very happy with this burger. I like the taste of the beef itself, although the patty is kinda dry (it's fast food afterall). And the cheese in it was good! Trust the Swiss in their cheeses, even at MacDonald's.
🔸
Or, perhaps I was eating this while walking towards the train station in the cold winter. Somehow when you're cold, everything tastes good.

This was my refuge from the winter winds outside after I missed the timing for the next train. The Swiss is famous for their cheese, so when I saw that this rosti came with cheese, i knew I've to order it!
🔸
Rosti could be the national dish of Switzerland because I'm seeing it everywhere. It's usually served as the carbo (instead of rice, noodles, mash potatoes) with a main dish such as schnitzel or sausages, but the rosti at the interlaken region appears to share a common trait - very hearty, always with a fried egg, and commonly with bacon as well. That sounds like a perfect breakfast isn't it.
🔸
I could only finish 1/3 of this. It's nice but it gets so gelat after a few bites.. But it's nice to have this while taking a shelter from the cold harsh winter winds, over a cup of hot chocolate.
