Belly Full
Having shifted from Simpang Bedok to The Grandstand, The Social Outcast (TSO) has expanded in size--not just as an outlet, but its menu as well.
Serving up main plates such as the Moluccas Beef Ribs, it's no wonder they need such a big space to accommodate the influx of people visiting the spot.
The New Zealand premium beef ribs are being charcoal grilled after being smoked & glazed with Moluccas, a distinctive blend of spices which packs a whole punch. The fall off the bone tender meat didn't need much agitation to be pulled apart which was great & the charred bits at the corner with the slight hint of sweetness were the best parts. On the side, it came with a portion of Mexican style elote & cold mash, which felt a lil' weird next to all the warm meat & corn, but could be easily forgotten as the main star was the beef ribs afterall.
If you're looking for tacos with a twist, KIAP has got your back! Their Asian flavours-inspired tacos are something to look out for if you're undecided of what to have this weekend!
Their flavours ranges from Vietnamese Cha Ca Cod to Filipino Soft Bone Sisig to Torikatusu to Chicken Rendang - there's flavours for everyone!
One of our favs was the Vietnamese Cha Ca Cod, which is an equivalent to the Baja Fish in Mexican taco terms. The battered Atlantic cod sits in a soft taco shell, topped with homemade slaw, sriracha mayo, crushed peanuts & charred spring onions. The spicy kick from the sriracha pairs so well with the soft & melt-in-your-mouth cod, while the peanuts and spring onions give you that slight crunch in each bite.
On the side, have a go at their Har Cheong Drumplets & upgrade your fries to the Chye Poh (preserved vegetables) Fries, you'd thank me later!
Order them either by themselves or as a set (which we did) and have them delivered to your door step or self-collect! If the set's not enough, add more items from Slake such as their Super Shiok Rice (beef fat fried rice) 🤤
Known to be an authentic Sichuan hot pot place that originates from Chengdu, Sichuan, China; Da Miao Hotpot has had a permanent spot in Clarke Quay for the past 2 years!
New on their menu is the Beauty Collagen Soup ($42 | Whole Pot, $32 | Yuan Yang Pot). The main ingredients from the soup broth are pork bone and fish maw, which are collagen-rich products! Apart from that, pig skin, chicken feet and pumpkin are added to the broth to provide you a slightly sweet, yet savoury soup broth.
What I enjoy the most out of this broth is that it’s not too thick, making it enjoyable and easy to drink even after boiling for hours! This also pairs perfectly with the mala as it helps to cool down the heat & sweeten every mouthful when it’s burning.
Situated at Clarke Quay Central & Orchard Gateway, Upin Hotpot is a rival of the famous HDL, but in a pocket-friendly way.
They have popular soup bases such as mala and tomato soup, which is cooked daily to ensure its freshness and standards.
You’d be able to find the typical favourites such as shrimp paste ($12), Fried Beancurd Skin ($6) & the usual meaty suspects, Pork Belly ($8) & US Beef Slices ($12).
Portions all come in full sizes as half sizes are not available (yet), but still remains fairly affordable at
.
Located at Duo Galleria, the Meating Place is the right space for you to meet, and meat. They have a fairly simple menu, but definitely one that has been thought out - from the starters, to the mains and even the desserts.
.
During our first visit, they recommended sharing 3 starters, a main, and if our stomach had space, a dessert. We followed their recommendation and boy, were we stuffed.
.
We shared the Steak Tartare ($16), Mushroom Fricassée ($13), Cornflakes Pumpkin ($9) for starters, ordered their Dry Aged Striploin ($29) to share and ended our meal on a tangy note with their Summer-Lova ($12).
.
More reviews will be up on @burpple! For now, have a great Thursday, one more day till the weekend! 🎉

Feast your eyes and bellies on Boiler’s Bombdiggity Bag ($149) which is good for 4, but I’d say 6 especially if you want to go for sides or add ons.
You get about 900-950g of Dungeness crab, prawns, mussels, clams, sausages, corn and fried mantou to scoop up the remaining sauce. Choose between 4 types of sauces, and we went for the Garlic Butter!
I love how the sweetness of the fresh seafood pairs with the salty butter, without being too overpowering with the garlic.
Psst! If it’s your birthday, you’d get to add on a Boston lobster for free! But only valid for the month with valid verification and with the order of the bombdiggity! 🥳

Overtime, I’ve learnt the art of saving money when I visit and it’s tips and tricks that I’ve heard and learnt from friends and even the servers themselves!
•
Must orders at any HDL would be their beancurd skin that comes rolled up. Dip it into your preferred soup for about 5 seconds and you’re good to go! It soaks up the flavour of your soup base while retaining its crunchiness!
•
Small life hack if you’d want to know, order 3 soups and leave the last one as plain water. The overall cost is cheaper than order 2 soup bases.

Apart from the famed 海底捞, Clarke Quay also houses another hotpot restaurant, 大妙火锅.
Their selection of soup bases allows you to only choose two of the variety that they have, so if you’re not too picky, this would suffice.
The selection of ingredients are pretty extensive as well, ranging from premium cuts of beef to your usual suspects of sides. While most items come in standard sizes, you do have a selection of small or large for the meats (in the event that you want to try more items out).
As the condiments, it is complimentary (unlike it’s competitor), so head over to make your own concoction of sauces. What I found interesting was that they had sesame oil in cans available as well, certainly not something you see daily.
Service was pretty decent and we even were able to catch the traditional tea pouring and face changing performances!
Price wise, the premium cuts are more affordable, while the usuals are about the same, so do manage your expectations!
Late to the party, but definitely not missing out on this! Lunch & Dinner buffet at $38++ for adults, even on special days such as Mother's Day. What more, we managed to get additional complements, cause Mum's are the best.
This Christmas, stuff yourself silly with friends & family over a spread of Peranakan dishes, fresh seafood, a Chinese spread booth, tons of Christmas cuts, fresh pasta, loads of desserts & the highlight - GREEN TEA WHITE CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN!
Walking into the restaurant is like walking into dessert paradise! You'd be greeted with rows of desserts & the fountain before stepping further in to the waves of savoury meats & dishes.
One of my favorite savory dishes would be the Laksa live station! Even though it comes in a tiny bowl, the laksa broth was lemak enough & you can add your own portion of poison (chilli) to decide on how spicy the dish goes.
