I recalled the wok hei was not thorough the last time i tried 4 years ago. Last weekend’s char kway teow ($3.5/4) had every strand that smells and tastes full of wok hei. You know the wok hei game is strong when it still taste excellent even after it turned cold. Each morsel is given the sweet fish sauce and soya sauce treatment and loaded with crispy pork lards and Chinese sausage that further enhance the fragrance. They can’t be bothered with “waste time” ingredients like fish cakes or prawns. I like that it is not overly wet and each strand of flat noodle is coated with remnants of the caramelized sauces and it is not overly sweet or jelat. Omg this could take over Zion Road as my most favourite CKT. I need to make a trip to Zion Road soon. Ok end of swooning. Now go back to work. #igivesecondchance
Returned to the king of laksa. Unlike other commoners, the soup is not thick but every spoonful packs a punch of intense concoction of coconut milk and spices, simmered over charcoal fire. Yes there is still charcoal cooking in SG 2017. The soup is so good that I don’t even care about the lacklustre noodles or lack of 料.. $3 for a small bowl
Get the rendang Nasi lemak ($5) with blue pea rice. available only on Tues and Sat. It’s worth every calorie.
This Tahu Telor is what every Tahu Telor should aspire to be: crispy yet fluffy, sweet yet addictive, fragrant yet light.
The noodles are coated with thick rempah that packs a spicy umami punch. Loved the interesting twist to the texture of the usual soup laksa.
Best char siew ever 👍🏻There’s so much going on in each slice. Think layers of succulent tender pork belly and melt-in-your-mouth fatty portions. This is what I call the golden ratio. And the smoky charred sweet sauce only is enough to make me run 10km for it.
I never seem to win. How to when the enemy is the glistening caramelised bbq chicken coated with kecap manis (sweet soy sauce) that is just unformidable with the aromatic curry sauce that's drizzled on warm rice and a fluffy omelette. Hai.
Happy Labour Day folks. #kingramen #stillthebest
Letao's matcha cheesecake is ex ($35) for 12cm cake) but exquisite .. the mousse or rather froth-like mascarpone cheese melts into the baked cheesecake layer when eaten together. Though I find the matcha flavour is very subtle. Must close eyes to concentrate then only I can taste the matcha.
The matcha icecream ($5.90) is not sweet, and leaves a mild bitter aftertaste. Solid! They also have 400g tubs now and a huge range of matcha stuff. I will be back!
Don't go too late as they close around noon. Ask for the fish curry. 🍴
Only 1 bowl of don that is covered with mouthwatering tempura (chicken breast, prawns, vegetables) delicately fried and drizzled with delicious sweet sauce. Value for money at $16 that comes a chawanmushi and miso soup.
