Salted Egg Chicken ($6)
This is a secret find I contemplated posting about. Such a rare gem at East Village! So good was the Salted Egg Chicken I found nothing to criticize about it. The chicken cubes were fried till golden brown perfection and gently tossed in salted yolk paste. I can taste the crunchy crust, juicy chicken and savoury salted egg all in 1 bite 😁! Eaten with the accompanying onion slices elevated the dish further. At $6 for such a huge portion, I fear that it is only a matter of time before this place gets packed.
Yangzhou Fried Rice Restaurant is only 2 months old but its food packs the wok hei of an old-timer tze char stall. Also in picture is the flavourful Yangzhou Fried Rice ($3) 😍 and Yu Xiang Brinjaj 🍆. This place serves truely honest and good food at exceptional prices!
I’m always delighted to uncover a hidden gem in this neighbourhood. Even though I’ve walked by this corner of the shophouse (junction of Neil Road and Duxton Road) several times, I’ve never felt motivated to check out this place above their affiliated TCM clinic. It was only when I saw the video about Hush TeaBar that I found out this was one of the locations for the bimonthly sessions, and sparked my curiosity.

The Economy Express Meal at $9.90 nett comprises of a choice of rice and soup, though available choices sometimes vary on different days. This is adequate for one's appetite, or there’s also The Full Works at $16 that has tea and dessert added on. Ala carte dishes are also listed in the menu.

My Black Chicken Herbal Soup was blacker than my friend’s soul (it’s her favourite catchphrase), but don’t worry it’s not bitter like it appears - phew! The chicken thigh meat’s tenderness was proof that this was boiled for hours, and the broth had hints of dang-gui and mild sweetness possibly from date or wolfberries. Not a "gao"-tasting herbal soup, in case that’s the type you like. Wholesome enough for me!

I loved the yam rice, so tasty despite not having a shred of meat inside. The yam chunks were big and cooked through perfectly, seemed like a lot then I realise they were all at the top of the bowl… Got to remember to conserve my yam to the last grain of rice next visit.

I’ll definitely be back again soon for their other nutritious dishes, especially their tea! For now, I declare this #Burpproved! #Burpple
There are some restaurants we reserve for celebrations, special events, or when we feel like giving ourselves a treat. Eng Seng Restaurant is one of them.
They open at 5pm, and are sold out by 7pm. The service is rude and lacks patience, and the environment is hot and humid. The place is loud with big groups chatting, and cars zooming outside. To make things worse, they don't have a menu, and you can only ask for the daily special. Despite all this, we have never been disappointed by their food — especially the black pepper crab. People might have an angry face 😡 while they are queuing, but I have never once seen anyone leave with one. This proves just how good their food is!
Most of the time, we visit this place with our family or friends. But on one occasion, it was really special. My dad had a sudden craving for their black pepper crab, but there was only the two of us! Of course, I immediately agreed to this idea, and both of us flew down as fast as we could. Imagine two men chilling over beer, and the very addictive black pepper crabs.
This must be my most memorable dinner ever. #hawkerpedia
They are popular for their Claypot Crayfish Laksa but this is very good too! One of those you wanna drink up all the soup😋
The closest experience to eating seafood by the beach at Jimbaran Bali, but in Singapore. The fried gurame is cooked to perfection. Verdict : 5/5
spicy sambal prawns, savoury chicken buah keluak, my favorite chap cai and the famous ngoh hiang.
a rather sunny yet rainy Sunday. it rains then shines, sunlight at full blast yet downpour a minute later

And that is an abalone, that was cooked inside this umami-packed broth. For this bowl of shiokness (goodness), it only costs $10.15 and it is available at your least expected place, Orchard Road! Do head down to Rabbit Brand Delicacies Food Outlet, located at Lucky Plaza, Level 2, to enjoy your meal!

When you take something already tasty (in this case, it's the famous "otah" from Muar), accessorise it a little (with some beaten egg, plus a couple of squid and prawn bits) and serve it in a snazzy style (hello sizzling hotplate). It ain't rocket science but it sure was gratifying.
