I’m always delighted to uncover a hidden gem in this neighbourhood. Even though I’ve walked by this corner of the shophouse (junction of Neil Road and Duxton Road) several times, I’ve never felt motivated to check out this place above their affiliated TCM clinic. It was only when I saw the video about Hush TeaBar that I found out this was one of the locations for the bimonthly sessions, and sparked my curiosity.

The Economy Express Meal at $9.90 nett comprises of a choice of rice and soup, though available choices sometimes vary on different days. This is adequate for one's appetite, or there’s also The Full Works at $16 that has tea and dessert added on. Ala carte dishes are also listed in the menu.

My Black Chicken Herbal Soup was blacker than my friend’s soul (it’s her favourite catchphrase), but don’t worry it’s not bitter like it appears - phew! The chicken thigh meat’s tenderness was proof that this was boiled for hours, and the broth had hints of dang-gui and mild sweetness possibly from date or wolfberries. Not a "gao"-tasting herbal soup, in case that’s the type you like. Wholesome enough for me!

I loved the yam rice, so tasty despite not having a shred of meat inside. The yam chunks were big and cooked through perfectly, seemed like a lot then I realise they were all at the top of the bowl… Got to remember to conserve my yam to the last grain of rice next visit.

I’ll definitely be back again soon for their other nutritious dishes, especially their tea! For now, I declare this #Burpproved! #Burpple
