Added $1 for an onsen egg with tobiko. Super yummy. Soft, perfectly cooked salmon topped with punchy ponzu marinated garlic and mentaiko. Rice had great texture too. I want this place to succeed but the question is whether it will survive in the long run, what with the (probably killer) rent, the fact that the shop wasn't full when we went, and the relatively high prices of the bowls ($16.90 and above)...
Old is gold. Generously portioned and perfectly pan seared salmon with crispy skin over a choice of brown rice, sushi rice or quinoa. Refreshing toppings gave crunch and flavour. $20++ for the lunch set that included a drink and dessert. Yep, happiness.
Waited 20min for a seat but finally tried this. Sauce is sweeter than Teppei's (which can be a bit too generous with the sodium) but I think Teppei's fish is marginally fresher. This was also predominantly salmon, and there wasn't much variety of other fish. Still, very decent value for $12.90.
Only $22++ for this glorious bowl with an appetizer, salad, miso soup and dessert. Love that there are less common fish in this bowl, such as silverfish. The rice was well seasoned, but really what impressed me was how delicate and fresh the ikura roe were - sometimes I find them too aggressively salty and briny. Super fresh fish and just great value. The restaurant is so beautiful as well, I loved the open kitchen and counter display of the fresh fish options available.
Took one bite of this and regretted that we ordered the small portion only. Tangy, savory mentaiko sauce on top of salmon sashimi and seasoned rice. What's not to love?
Okay, so I splurged a little and paid $9 more for some uni to top this bowl off. Topped with chunks of marinated sashimi, this bowl was full of flavour and texture. The crunchy jellyfish and crispy tempura bits added texture that was a pleasant surprise. There was also some minced tuna on top. Best thing? These dons ($17 originally, $26 with uni) are available for dinner too. Great place for some indulgence after a long day at work.
$12 nett, and comes with salad and miso soup. Fried chicken was crispy and the vinegar and mayo combination was delicious as well. And of course an onsen egg helped seal the deal. Really good option for lunch in the CBD. Skip the sashimi bowls - the last time I had the salmon and maguro bowl, it was not good at all with lukewarm slices of fish.
Don't think this needs an introduction. Almost identical to the kaisen don I had at the original Teppei at Orchid Hotel, so that's good. Slightly too much salt for my liking this time though.
