Eight 8 Korean BBQ now served DIY Bibimbap for lunch. Similar to the customizable salads, you can choose your preferred (Korean themed) ingredients and mix it in together in a hot plate. An affordable lunch option at $10+.
HOW. TO. RESIST. Especially on a rainy day, with a $11 set lunch ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฑ This spicy seafood tofu soup is everything I want - lots of seafood flavour, generous amounts of tofu and the best part? I can top up $4 for seafood pancake ๐
An unlikely suspect appearing at Chir Chir that turned out to be so great! Expect umami seafood flavours mixed in with the Korean chilli paste, complemented with chewy glass noodles and an ocean worth of seafood! I kept going for seconds... Thirds... Fourths.... Ok you get what I mean. Best to share, cause you got to leave some space for the fried chicken there!
The stellar dishes at Char that got my mummy nodding her head in approval. The platter of 3 ($32) with Char's mad famous char siew, crackling pork belly and decent roasted duck. The family loves the tenderness of the char siew, with almost same parts of fats and meat, making it almost too guilty to have and too guilty to not have. I particularly liked the cracking pork belly which comes with a golden crispy skin. A less known but stellar dish would be the beef hor fun ($12). Every mouthful was filled with wok hei, what's not to like really? Thanks Raine for reminding me about the Hawkerpedia vouchers, I managed to bring my parents out for a good meal for a nominal fee.
The really rich and luxuriously flavourful JJM is placed together with the comforting, umami seafood soup ramen ($17.90), making you almost feel guilty for having too much of a good thing. And even though the portion looks small, somehow 2 girls had difficulty finishing it. Or maybe it's because we went berserk on the free flow sides...
Mad love for this plate of Kimcheese Fried Rice, made in true blue Yoogane style. Sour-savoury kimchi fried rice topped with cheese and a raw egg. Mix it all in together for a sinful gooey ball of flavour. And kudos to Eight for adding the bonito flakes, which heightens the pleasure of the dish. Thanks Eight for hosting and Juls for asking me along!
Had a ball of a time with my girl rolling these anchovy rice balls! Not too sure what mystery sauces went into the rice, but experience of mixing it up adds to the whole fun of eating. The resulting texture was a solid, sticky, chewy ball of rice, peppered with tons of crispy anchovies and seaweed! My friend and I (both crazy noodle lovers) greatly enjoyed this bowl of balls!
Simply value-for-money. Guksu specializes in personalized hotpot with many different soup bases- kimchi, herbal chicken, clams etc. At just the $14.90, expect a plate of meat (mine's the pork belly), meat dumplings, a huge bowl of vegetables, a carbo as well as free flow side dishes and sauces. Don't expect extremely flavourful soup bases, at least for the kimchi. This is not the place for you to satisfy your intense Korean cravings, but it is definitely the place for a hearty eat.
Extreme closeup of all the yummy goodness in this army stew. Luncheon meat, sausages, bacon and Maggie mee ๐ This army stew came out to be a little too savory at first and tasted overwhelmingly of luncheon meat. But as we continued adding kimchi (which came free flow as part of the side dishes) and diluting the soup base, it slowly came out to be a perfect balance of sour and savory. We also couldn't resist adding more Maggie noodles for only $3 ๐
Uh oh! The trip to Wang Dae Bak yesterday got me started on my Korean food craving. So I headed back to Kim Dae Mun, located on the 2nd floor of Concorde hotel now, for a cheap and good Korean meal. Featuring one of my favorites from the store, Kimchi Stew with Pork! At a mere $7.50, expect an collision of savoury, spicy and sour in every mouthful. This is about the most flavour-packed kimchi soup I've had at this price point. Not forgetting to mention the never ending amount of tofu, pork slices and kimchi. Its authentic flavours and generous portions are amongst the many reasons why this place sees a regular flow of Korean patrons.
Don't underestimate it's humble appearance. This bowl of Samgaetang is oh-so-flavorful and wholesome, my friend and I were slurping the soup non-stop. The chicken broth was rich and savory, with only hints of ginseng, which was more pleasing to my palette. And look at the huge portion of chicken which was so soft and tender. Overall, this was a 10/10 for the both of us! Can't wait to have this again for my next trip to WDB.
Knew I could always rely on Burpple's recommendation for good food! Came to Wang Dae Bak after seeing Burrple's ROTD and it proved to be so so awesome. Here we have the Toppiki Stew with cheese topping, which was so rich, saucy and sweet, maybe even a little too sweet for my liking. The Toppoki was soft and slightly chewy- almost the perfect texture for the otherwise difficult to digest rice cake. I also loved the generous serving, which could easily have fed a party of 4.
