Lor Mee
Whatās the best part about a dry ban mian? The chilli sauce. When done right, it should deliver a punch without being too oily but still mega fragrant.
Grandma Ban Mian ($5) hits all the right notes - with the best type of chilli, perfectly cooked noodles and a runny side up added to the mix. I absolutely loved how the anchovies added a nice savory flavour to the noodles and that welcoming crunch. Always a good choice at Amoy food market.
Really serves up authentic heng hwa food at a fraction of restaurant price. A medium bowl of lor mee (pictured) costs less than $10 and its definitely more than enough to eat. I wouldnāt really recommend the other dishes as they arenāt outstanding, though still tasty. The lor mee and bee hoon itself are worthy of the trip down already.
A little bird told me the sweet and sour pork here is super good.
Lor Mee with 3 types of fillings- fish fritters, Lor ba and a very satisfying Ngoh Hiang. The gravy is flavourful and not too starchy, which goes well with my palette. Touted to be one of the best in the Serangoon neighborhood, people claim that the store sells out by 1230pm on good days.
Located at Serangoon avenue 3, Blk 326, opposite Zhonghua Secondary School. Prices start at $3 for a small bowl. Pro tip: order the $3.50 portion for extra 'liao'!

Mad love for the fried fish- super soft, super fresh and super crispy! The Lor Mee gravy is rather flavourful, but I prefer Yuan Chun (located on 2nd floor of Amoy Street) a lot more!
