A stalwart at Chinatown Complex Market & Food Centre, this stall draws crowds of all ages who gather for the freshly handmade yong tau foo ingredients, all of which sport an abundant use of fresh fish paste. Prices start from $3 for six pieces with bee hoon or noodle; pay an additional 50 cents each for extras like crispy ikan bilis, which you should order without question — the deep-fried anchovies add both flavour and crunch, and are what transform a good yong tau foo dish into a great one. Burpple Tastemaker Peiwen T. recommends going for the dry option, which sees your choice of noodles tossed in generous amounts of fragrant sesame oil.
Pro tip: The stallowner is taking a break until 4 January, so come after!

Tucked away at one end of Chinatown Complex Market & Food Centre, this nondescript stall dishes up really quality Japanese rice bowls at a fraction of the price you'll pay in restaurants — we heard it's a favourite among office executives in the area. Burpple Tastemaker Jason Wong ordered the Katsudon ($5), which sees freshly fried crispy pork cutlets covered in still slightly runny scrambled egg, sweet katsu sauce, soft onion and nori strips, atop a mound of well-cooked short grain rice. While the cook may take awhile to get your dish ready, Jason assures us that it is worth the wait, for he could taste the care that goes into the food; the hospitable service from the friendly auntie was a nice bonus! Other dishes you may wish to try include the Ebi Don Set ($5.50) and the Unagi Set ($8).

Note that this unicorn food do come in limited quantity every day 🦄
It's rare that the truffle wasn't overpowered by the amount of cheese (I've had many disappointing encounters elsewhere). Though once is enough - I do like it, but would have loved it better with some side salad or something. Moreover, nothing would ever beat the original version I've tried in Hong Kong (KALA Toast in Tsuen Wan).
XO Carrot Cake was amazing! Along with the ones you can never go wrong with - Prawn Paste Chicken Wings, Salted Eggs Salmon Skin, Salad Prawns & Beef Cubes. Picked this venue for its Asian flavors and it sure was a hit with everyone!

A pretty new spot in the CBD, Yuki Onna serves dons and make-your-own-bowls for lunch with fresh cuts of sashimi. If raw fish isn't your thing, they've got pork and truffle beef yakiniku (so coming back for this!!!)
Cold Truffle Somen with Hotate ($14.90) was delightfully light and fragrantly doused with truffle oil, and had a nice bite to it. Served with sweet Hokkaido scallops, and little bursts of caviar. Portion was ok for me but I'm a pretty small-eater so it might be insufficient for some. Added a side dish of salmon sashimi ($4.80) to complete the meal and satisfy my greed.
Office workers in the Chinatown area — rejoice! Kin Cow, a casual Thai restaurant specialising in beef noodles, has just opened its doors on the third floor of Chinatown Point. On rainy days, come by with colleagues for a comforting bowl of hot soupy noodles. There are six bowls to choose from, each serving a different cut of beef. We recommend the Brisket Bowl ($10.90) with soup and Thai thin rice noodles — the most affordable of the lot and the tastiest! Expect tender chunks of double-braised brisket bobbing in a bowl of piping hot, flavourful broth, served with a generous portion of blanched kang kong. For those who prefer thinner cuts of meats, opt for the Ribeye Bowl ($17.90) — equally well-cooked beef slices soaking in the same flavourful broth. For even more variety, add on the collagen-rich Beef Tendon ($3). There is an option to change the type of noodles, as well as to have the noodles dry.

You'll want to save this place for the next birthday celebration in the office. This cosy bakery along Club Street makes delicious bakes that we can vouch for. The Ombre Berry Cheesecake (from $45) is a no-bake triple layered pink cheesecake with a thick biscuit base that is beautiful, light and crowd-pleasing. Lucia Cake's owner and head baker was previously trained at Le Cordon Bleu, London, so you can expect your bakes to be of a certain calibre. This banker-turned-baker also dishes out stellar Triple Chocolate Brownies ($35, comfortably feeds 12 people). Whether you like it cakey, chewy or fudgy, you'll be deeply satisfied. An abundance of rich, earthy, slightly bittersweet chocolate flavour makes these super dense brownies stand out from your average fare.
