This gem in Yishun will more than please heartlanders in the North. Expect bold flavours like Mr Potato Head (vanilla ice cream infused with salted caramel, studded with chocolate coated potato chips), Orh Nee (Teochew yam paste) and Mao Shan Wang, but also more classic flavours like Earl Grey Lavender and Rum and Raisin. The ice cream here is creamy and milky, but the waffles may not be the best you can find. That said, the combination of waffles and ice cream is always a match made in heaven. They serve coffee and milkshakes as well.
It's lack of a distinct shopfront doesn't stop the crowds from flocking to Ronin for excellent coffee and unpretentious food. Opened by the good folks behind The Plain and The Bravery, pop into this dimly-lit, no-nonsense cafe for some legit scrambled eggs on toast (add on that juicy portobello mushroom and bacon for good measure) and the well-loved Dirty Ronin sandwich. Do yourself a favour and get the decadent brioche French toast topped with braised apple, bacon, hazelnut butter and syrup -- you won't regret it. Of course, no brunch is complete without a kick of caffeine from their classic brews. If you feel like something different, go for their Matcha Latte, or cool down on a hot day with a Wicked!
Fronted by the original signage of a store built in the mid-70s, a.e.i.o.u.'s concept revolves around going 'back to basics', showcased in their decor, food and atmosphere. Unique up-cycled furniture, mismatched chairs and one-of-a-kind standing lamps give this cafe nothing but character. With a laid-back vibe, this is an interesting place to stop by for an Iced Avocado Coffee (yes, avocado!) in a repurposed vodka bottle. Food-wise, go for the Beef Cheek Pasta and end off with their super zingy Lime Tart. For a vegetarian options that don't fail to satisfy meat-eaters, go for the Mushroom Soup, and the Roasted Pumpkin Salad with quinoa, raisins, chick peas and greens!
