The ayam bakar taliwang was so good that we ordered a second helping and even packet a few drumsticks back. Charcoal grilled to perfection, the marinate and charred aroma was tempting our senses from every bite that we cleared the meat till the bones were left. If you are in Batam, do make this a pitstop to your food adventures. Other notable dishes include the fried chicken in sambal ijo and the deep fried catfish.

If you are feeling hungry and waiting for your ferry at the Harbourbay Ferry Terminal, take a short walk to Bella Italia Restaurant (near Wey Wey Seafood) to have some authentic Italian food. One of the restaurant's signatures, the Le Pezze di Pasta al Peperoncino Saltati con Scampi, Cappesante & Pomodori Secchi in Salsa allo Zafferano (Homemade spiced flat pasta sautéed with prawns, scallops and sundried tomatoes in a saffron sauce, 126000 Rph) is a crowd favourite. The gravy is so flavourful that you hoped you had some bread to scoop up all the last bit of sauce after finishing the pasta.

You have not visited Batam if you didn't make a stopover at the iconic A&W restaurant to have a root beer float. I still have fond memories from visiting one of the last remaining outlets in Tampines many years back before the brand left Singapore. The memories will still continue to live on for many years to come, just like how Singaporeans will remember and live the legacy left behind by our dear founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew.
