Korean style raw beef sashimi comes blended with chopped onion and julienne pear; and of course the raw egg.
This portion is huge. We almost made the mistake to order individual portions
Grilled to perfection expertly by the chef at the convenience of your table. This is real food!
Heard so much about their pancake being authentic Korean standard. I think what they meant is the pancake batter which is thick (I mean it!) but yet succulent to give it that QQ texture which is truly enjoyable. In my view, it would have been better if they use more onion in it.
Certainly one of the most enjoyable amongst a selection of over 8 side dishes. The finely diced fruits, including apple and some melon brings to life a refreshing palate to this variant from the expected regular mash potato. It almost has that ice cream We got a second helping and almost a third!
Silken toufu
The most outstanding dish of the night at this acclaimed most authentic traditional Korean restaurant. The usual stir fried pork I had comes with kimchi, but not their rendition. Instead the sweetness of the onion, capsicum and green onion replaces the tangy kimchi. The red bokgeum sauce looks fiery but does nothing to raise the heat level of this dish. The sliced pork used has a good level of fat and lean meat and softbone which certainly raises the level of enjoyment of this dish.
[Halal] Spicy stew of stir-fry chicken topped with melted shredded cheese…perfect for the autumnal temperatures here in Seoul! It’s difficult to find halal food in Seoul (I swear you’d have to sell your soul/Seoul for it lolol), especially in the Hongik University region, so this place was unanimously our saviour. Plus, the food was lip-smacking and leave-no-grain-of-rice-untouched kind of delicious! This will always have its imprint in my head and heart, honestly. 😢 (7.8/10)
This is really good. Comes as a add on to our cheese dang-gul set. The generous shredded seaweed is tossed in with the diced spam, olive oil(?) and rice. We are provided plastic gloves to grab the mixed rice and shape them into balls. We did try the initial round and gave up very soon after because the mixed rice for one it's really hot and we just can't wait to dig in!
Whilst Joo Bar would not be your go to place for traditional Korean cuisines, their toufu seafood pot is a pretty wicked, warm comfy food to go with your drinks.
What is Korean dining without octopus. This is a really neat dish with nothing overly fanciful. The octopus are disected into neat bite size cuts, stirred to a stonepot of Ssamjang sauce and caramelised onion. Goes well as a beer snack or main course with the rice patty.
I was struggling to classify this post... If you like your okonomoyaki (Japanese vegetarian pancake with those fluffing bonito flakes) and pajun (Korean pancake) and can't make up your mind, this is probably your best choice. Simply, this has to be one of the "must order" staple. I never underestimate the creativity of the chefs at Joo Bar, but one crazy thought crosses my mind that they should perhaps try add some ssamjang (Korean BBQ bean paste sauce) for that extra fusion kick.

Sticks and stones may break my bones but bread and beer complete me!
