Another bowl of goodness found at marine terrace. At $4, this bowl of noodles had one of the tastiest fishballs I ever ate. Fresh and springy. It's once of those fishballs that my grandpa used to sell as a fishmonger. The meatballs were delicious, their small pork slices were well marinated as their stall also sells porridge! Overall, if not for their remote location, this is one bowl of noodles I don't mind eating everyday.
Stall 45 at the popular East Coast Lagoon food centre is probably the only "wanton mee" stall in Singapore where I'd admit I am there because of the "char siew".
Having always rooted for savoury over sweet, "char siew" has never held that much fascination for me. So when I tuck into "wanton mee", it is the combination of everything else that matters more. Not just those few slices of red-coloured meat. This stall however, is one of the rare exceptions.
What I like about their version is that the texture of the "char siew" is just right: not hard, dry or chewy. Plus the unique way it's cut adds to the enjoyment because the meat sort of comes apart more easily. Being completely infiltrated by the sweet marinade during preparation stage and then served with extra sauce over it, flavour and juiciness are aplenty too. The meat has also spent enough time over flames to be charred in all the right places. I swear I can taste a slight smokiness in every delectable bite.
A must-have whenever I am here. There is no way I can say no to the lusciousness of this avocado-laden, wasabi-laced mayo raw salmon roll. Every mouthful makes me go "Mmmmm!"
14.12.2014 \\ Dinner with the family at ThaiPan Restaurant, located inside Mandarin Gardens Condominium. Luckily we got a table immediately because the restaurant was filled up pretty quickly. Prices are really affordable and they have some recommended dishes such as the Cereal Chicken and Steamed Fish Teochew Style. For the Singapore dinner experience, this is one zhi czar place you have to go.
Operated by the second son, the Hai Kee Soy Sauce Chicken Rice. The serving is very generous.
Highly recommend to try their ginger and spring onion sauce and the Hor Fun. Their soy sauce chicken with Hor Fun formed the ultimate combo - simply can't stop eating.
The chicken fully flavored by the sweet soy sauce and cooked to tender.

Slightly different from the ones we had at Song Fa Buk Kut Teh. Less peppery. The pig trotters though doesn't make the cut. Too oily. Overall, for 2= $17.60
Their fragrant starch-free curry gravy features a plethora of spices and makes your palate dance with its lovely assam note. Scattered freshly-cut green chilli padi add a burst of aromatic heat. The only type of fish used here is the "ang gor li" or sea bream and are bought the same morning for optimal freshness. I prefer to order the fish tail when it's available (the one pictured cost $22) because I find it easier to enjoy the chunks of fish meat. Rajah's Curry started in 1972 and I began frequenting the stall when it moved to Jalan Tua Kong, before tracking them down when they moved here to the junction of Still Road and Joo Chiat Place. The friendly elderly couple who owns the business is very proud that there is zero MSG, coconut cream and coconut milk in their dishes. I find it all the more impressive considering how delicious their food is.
