DSTLLRY is definitely not what you would consider a traditional Japanese restaurant, but don't underestimate the quality of their food. In particular, their lunchtime dons (rice bowls) seem to be irresistible. The chunks of plump and fresh salmon, maguro and hamachi are tossed in a special mix of mirin, dashi and soy sauce, making their Barachirashi Don ($16.90), quite simply, to-die-for. What's unique is that you can opt not only for a salad instead of rice for your Barachirashi, but also a Barachirashi Spicy Ramen, if you're not a chirashi purist, that is. The only catch? This dark, sexy bar and art gallery is kinda hidden in the depths of Portsdown, so please keep this chirashi in mind should you be in the area during lunch!
Priced at $14.90++, Sprigs offers one of the best and most affordable lunch sets that I have come across near my school. Each set comes with a soup of the day and a glass of gourmet iced tea. My Surf & Turf consisted of a pan fried boneless chicken thigh, wagyu beef steak and a garlic buttered prawn. All of them were pleasing to the palate, special mention goes to the steak cause who doesn't love wagyu? The Duo Salmon Spaghettini on the other hand, done al dente and the salmon wasn't overdone. The creamy tomato sauce complemented the salmon and pasta really well, both aesthetically and in terms of taste. Sprigs also changes their lunch set menu on a fortnightly basis, so regulars do not have to worry about eating the same old dishes over and over again. Check out their menu on their website at http://www.sprigs-sg.com and note that Ala Carte dishes are not available during lunch. Let's see if my hectic school schedule allows me to become a regular here.
Chanced upon this booth selling quite some unique ice cream & I decided to go for the classic coconut one. Somehow the ice cream tasted a little too 'icy' instead of anything near coconut taste. The almond bits and coconut flesh kinda made up for it. Quite interesting though, I wouldn't mind grabbing one any day to beat the heat.
