4.5 munchies: Noodles firm to the bite, generous ingredients and most important of all, the sweet and fragrant stock made from fresh prawns and anchovies! Even though I prefer my hokkien mee with red sambal chilli, this was so good that I could make do without it and still felt satisfied after wiping the plate clean.

P.S. Be prepared to wait for at least 30 mins, and the uncle closes the stall as and when he likes it.

Nam Sing Hokkien Fried Mee, #01-32

Whenever I visited Old Airport Road, I will buy some of these curry puffs back! Simple love it! The crispy flaky pastry and the saucy fillings are so good!

The savory braised peanut created a contrast with the sweet gravy which went perfectly with the duck. For those who might don't like sweet gravy, you dip it into their spicy homemade chili sauce. Not a bad eat. .

Crispy honey-glazed skin which was semi-sweet also came with a tinge of smokiness from the grill. Loved how savoury and juicy the meat is, though it was a wee bit greasy. This was at the Old Airport Road Food Central #01-90 but they have other outlets elsewhere as well. Spring chicken $8, wings $1.20

Craving for some HK-style Chee Cheong Fun so went to the nearest one after having my regular cuppa. As much as I like the one I have at Chong Pang, this one seems to be of more adequate thickness, therefore absorbing the light soy sauce better. Not to mention the prawns here are actually bigger and fresher too!

Had always been dying to try the Claypot Laksa stall here having passed by it for ages and am finally glad to have given it the shot. There is no reason why one wouldn't love that thick Laksa gravy which comes with curry-like flavours but less jelak with strong coconut and rempah flavours. And when you add ingredients like fresh prawns and hum, it gets all the merrier. A good word of advice: If you don't mind spicy food, just add the chili for more shiokness; it does come with a good kick that would give the Claypot Laksa enough heat that makes you want to slurp on the gravy till it's all wiped out even on a hot sweaty day like the day I had it.

Not the prettiest plate by far but certainly one of the tastiest I've had in recent times. A glorious mess of pork cutlet, tender squid, cabbage and fried egg with sweet dark soya sauce sits atop a bed of rice. All of this is drenched in a fragrant, coconut-y curry sauce. The star of the dish is of course the crispy pork cutlet - a thin layer of expertly spiced deep-fried breading encasing juicy pork fillet within. Though I am loathe to use such a lazy suffix, this was aptly PORKALICIOUS. $5.70 for this lordly meal.

Wouldn't mind having this right now. One of my favourite hawker desserts. That mango and durian! 😋

The newly-revamped flagship Ponggol Nasi Lemak outlet along Jalan Besar Road offers the same nasi lemak you know and love, but now in a fast food-esque setting and with a greater variety of side dishes and even desserts to choose from. Be sure to try the absolutely addictive Crispy Chicken Skin with Curry Leaves ($1.50 per serving/ $4.80 per tub), which has its fats removed to make it as guilt-free as fried chicken skin could possibly be. You're probably not used to having ice cream right after your nasi lemak, but this is a new practice that seriously works, especially when the Milo ice cream ($2.50 per tub) tastes exactly like the Milo with condensed milk from the kopitiam—only in ice cream form!
