Healthy Cafés In KL

Healthy Cafés In KL

In a growing health conscious society, we all want to make healthier choices when we eat out but do not want to stick to just salads. Good news! More healthy cafés are coming up these days! Of course you can't get everything 100% healthy. But at least BETTER options. Moderation is always the key. :) Here are few cafés that I think are healthy. More coming up!

Or maybe it's time for brunch since it's already noon.
Head over to real food for REAL FOOD 😜. Get over Monday blues with this refreshing muesli, of soy yogurt, bananas, apples, berries, and oats all mixed together to form a comforting blend.
If you're the type that doesn't mind the little seed textures of raspberries and blackberries, you will definitely love this!
But bummer! I was supposed to get an "organic" cookie on the side but I didn't. Got diced apples and bananas instead 😢

Food: 6/10 Price: 5/10 (RM 18)

Hello autumn.
With Autumn, this means we get pumpkins and all the delicious root vege in supermarkets!
Although we don't experience four seasons in Malaysia, we can still enjoy the crops that are in season!
Delicious and pure pumpkin soup (but quite like a pumpkin purée) with a hint of spices for that kick. I have an inkling that it's curry powder because I could really taste the slight curry taste.
Served with a side of sourdough toasts to clean your plate with!
Food: 8/10 Price: 7/10 (RM 12 - now this one is quite reasonably priced for me)

Coffee is served with soy!
Organic mushroom aglio olio pasta with a dash of chilly. (Option to omit chilly if you don't like spicy)

Very minimal oil used proven when presented with a humble shine. Nicely al dente pasta with good portion for a very satisfying lunch. And also delicious mushroom medley stir fried nicely with the right earthy taste.
Food: 8/10 Price: 5/10 (RM 22 - Yes because it's organic it's overly charged. Only criticism is the price for food here)

Arrived early at Huckleberry just for their breakfast menu. A very impromptu visit on a Friday but croissant cravings brought me here. Decided to give huckleberry another chance but this time with their breakfast menu.

I had their homemade granola parfait served with assorted fresh fruits like apples, bananas, watermelon, assorted nuts and seed, and some raw organic honey. They use fresh fruits that are in season and convenient. The mason jar makes everything look beautiful!
Definitely a delicious and healthy breakfast to start your day. I was basically full from all the fruits and delicious yogurt (farmers union). Their granola is baked with cold pressed coconut oil. Never really tried anything with coconut oil but I really love the granola! There was indeed quite little granola and an abundance of fruits mixed with yogurt.

Food: 8/10 Price: 7/10 (RM 17.90 - price is alright for this delicious mix and quality)

PS. Never leaving without having their delicious almond croissant!! I had two and took away one.

A mix of crisps romaine, baby spinach, rocket, broccoli, peas, beetroot, quinoa, mango, pomegranate, and avocado, topped with walnuts and seeds. Dressed with Huckleberry's organic honey mustard homemade dressing.
It was also freshened up from all the greens with the great Cs; cucumbers, carrots and cherry tomatoes.
I had the dressings on the side to avoid the salad being soaked and drenched in them. I do appreciate the freshness of the vegetables and nicely steamed then chilled broccoli. The mangoes fooled us for cheese as they were semi-hard in texture and cut into cubes, just like fresh cut Parmesan.
Love the dressing and also because I was in control of the dressings, it was just right at every bite.
Nothing much to say about a salad really. Everybody can make this at home with quality ingredients. And well, salads basically taste green, healthy, and fresh! 😅 Food: 6/10 Price: 6/10 (RM 25.90 - I was never really a fan of salad prices in restaurants but there's always the difference of crisps and freshness in the lettuces when somebody prepares it for you)

And I just found their branch at Publika! Quite hidden but it had quite a nice atmosphere and very kid friendly. Just on the same floor as Namoo Cafe, right opposite them!
Recommended by the waiter, this salad consists of a mix of mashed and diced avocado, diced tomatoes and peppers, diced poached chicken, delicious crushed walnuts and raisins; all served on a bed of lettuce. The mashed avocado was already a nice dressing, but it was also tossed with minimal amount zesty mustard dressing.
One more favourite salad, added to the list!
Food: 8/10 Price: 8/10 (RM 28 - this was one big salad served with a side of bread. I had to takeaway half of this. But I enjoyed a nice serving of salad the next day too!)

A lighter and healthier option. Tuna is good for you! Apples, corns and vegetables too! Haha

The flatbread is sort of like a wrap. Unlike a Turkish flatbread that's very thick.
This dish is very light and fresh. Love the combination of tuna, apples and corn. It says the tuna and apple is mixed with mayonnaise but I didn't taste any mayonnaise. Maybe very minimal. Which is good! Amount of tuna and the rest of the fillings were adequately generous.

I will definitely go for this if I need a to go lunch or just a light lunch.
I'm surprised the flatbread came with a side salad too. A generous amount of lettuce leaves as well. Salad is light and fresh garnished with a little balsamic vinegar.

Food: 8/10 Price: 9/10 (RM 10.90 - Now you know why I was surprised when it came together with a side salad. It was displayed on the cabinet and I thought they will only serve that. So happy they make you eat your veggies!)

After Black definitely has caught my heart and they rank as one of my top cafes now.
Clockwise: Japanese style salad with smoked salmon ; Thai style salad with Soft Shell Crab ; Western Style Salad with Grilled Chicken and dressing replaced with balsamic vinaigrette.
One thing in common for all of their salads is they start with a basic lettuce, tomato and onions salad. What differentiates everything is the dressing and topping.
Their salad is for sure very fresh and crisps! Three trials, all consistently fresh and delicious!
1. Had the smoked salmon Japanese salad on my first visits. The served the Japanese Sesame dressing by Kewpie I think! Smoked salmon was really fresh too! This bowl of salad was wiped clean by the group of people I went with.
2. Soft Shell crab Thai style salad is not too bad. But this was my least favourite. The dressing is a special sweet and sour and slightly spicy Thai sauce. Soft shell crab is good but VERY oily. I think soft shell crabs being oily is a norm. So if you're trying to control your diet while eating out, soft shell crab is out of your list.
3. This is one special but not so special salad 😂 I wanted the smoked duck salad with vinaigrette dressing but also wasted to change the duck to chicken breast. Rather than getting that, the waitress recommended to me to get a basic western salad with grilled chicken and the kitchen will replace the usual honey mustard dressing (I think) with a vinaigrette. It's basically the same with the duck salad. Great job! Healthy and fulfilling. I like this salad the most! ❤️ Food: 8/10 Price: 8/10 (Basic salad price is RM 8.90. Prices vary with toppings. The three salads above are 1. RM 12.90; 2. RM 14.90; 3. RM 12.90)

Sorry for the late wish. I hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend and collecting a lot of red packets!
My family wanted to have breakfast on the first day of Chinese New Year but everywhere was closed! Thank God Antipodean was open.
I had my favourite muesli bowl. There was muesli, apples, strawberries, pineapples, apples, yogurt, then served with a shot of milk.
If you're looking for something healthy and something besides the big breakfast at Antipodean, choose this for freshness and fullness! :) Food: 8/10 Price: 7/10 (RM 16 - the portion of the muesli bowl didn't shrink. They're so generous with the fruits and yogurt!)

Ordered this on my second visit to Jam & Kaya for brunch. So in love with this vegetarian dish! Shakshuka is a Middle East style baked eggs. A lot of spices! A lot of flavour! I usually hate pepper and other spices (like seriously strong and spicy curry are my enemy) but Jam & Kaya impressed me darn well.
Couldn't stop eating it. Dip it with the strip breads on the side, you will be thoroughly satisfied! Crunchy, saucy and flavourful. Another go to baked eggs dish besides The Red Beanbag! Except this is slightly healthier, going vegetarian and using feta cheese.
Jam & Kaya, you're definitely one of my favourite brunch places now!
Food: 9/10 Price: 7/10 (RM 18.90 - this price is quite high considering the small portion, simple lettuce with balsamic salad and few strips of bread. Same price as the Farmer's pancake but I'd rather choose the farmers pancake at this price for more value)

YAY but nay.... I just completed college here and now they opened a Starbucks after I left. 😭 I used to travel all the way to PBD for the Starbucks there. Grr

New menu! I'm surprised they have quite a good menu here. Pastas, lasagna and pita bread.
Their pasta looks really good! But I had their pita sandwich. Tastes nice too! Oh and their lasagna was good as well.
The chicken pita is served with a side salad. They used wholewheat pita too! This is the healthy option at Starbucks. Love it! So delicious too. I'm happy because the black pepper wasn't too hot. The pita bread is stuffed with black pepper chicken breast, some purple cabbage and mustard. Quite delicious! If they opened earlier I'll always hang out here. Sigh.
Food: 9/10 Price: 8/10 (I forgot the actual price because the barista didn't give me my receipt. But I know it's quite cheap and less than RM 20! Maybe RM 11.90?)

I have a soft spot for paninis and pressed sandwiches. Roasted chicken too!

The panini tasted good. But slightly overpriced imo. There's roasted chicken, caramelized onions, some bell peppers, tomatoes and cheese, melted in between two breads. Served with a side of potato salad.

The side salad is delicious! I like the potato given. Salad dressing was good too. Sandwich is crispy and toasted nicely. Bell peppers gave them a nice kick and freshness.

Food: 7/10 Price: 7/10 (RM 18 for the sandwich. Price is quite high for such simple ingredients but not too overpriced. Not to bad to have someone make sandwiches for you. This is what other cafes charge for a sandwich anyway. But trust me you can do this at home. Healthier and cheaper.)
