Matcha Madness
Premium Gyomuyo matcha custard with a thin layer of Croquant. Breaking into it, you'll find generous matcha custard flowing out but it's a tad too sweet for my liking. While these are good, will probably stick to my cream puffs from Dulcet & Studio instead.
Tsubu Parfait $7.80 from @hvalawafflebar, matcha softserve topped with toasted buckwheat puffs, gula Melaka sago, grilled dango and senbei. I'd suggest adding $3 more to get that addictive puffle to level up your Parfait.

The matcha deliver a smooth taste with a slight bitterness and the buckwheat puffs gave an additional crunch. On the other hand, the gula Melaka sago lost it's sweetness to the intense matcha soft serve. šµš¦Also tried the matcha soba flavoured soft serve, interestingly good.
Located at golden mile food centre, there are several flavours and I had the matcha azuki which cost $1.80 each. With a rich molten filling, it is best to be eaten hot and yes it's freshly baked upon ordering. šš¼
This Matcha Chocolate MontBlanc $14.80 is their signature, it includes various fruits, chocolate ice cream that is encased with matcha cream then topped with chocolate sauce. I had high hopes for this little thing being called Mont Blanc but it came out the opposite. Where's the 'spaghetti' looking kind of dessert? š Taste wise, overall nothing fantastic.
Adore this Matcha Lava Cake $12.90 that is uniquely presented in a jar, only at Fart Tartz. Topped with vanilla bean ice cream, azuki beans and speculoos cookie crumbs which added an extra crunch. Best way to enjoy this - dig your spoon all the way to the bottom and have all the layers in one bite. š
Their pancakes are made up of 7 different grains that are grown in Kyushu. We had the Matcha MontBlanc $18, a stack of pancakes topped with matcha mousse, matcha MontBlanc sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream at the side. It wasn't as sweet as it looks and it's best for sharing. Despite the many raved reviews, it tasted rather tame in reality. At least to us.
A different kind of pancakes for a different audience.
Finally got to try the pancakes at the popular Kyushu Pancake Cafe. At about noon, every table was utilised and by Japanese women! So I got really excited because I thought this place must be legit!
The cafe boasts of their pancake mix which is made from seven specially selected Kyushu-grown grains. The informative section of the menu was in Japanese but I could deduce from the graphics that there's wheat, barley, glutinous rice and Okinawa sugar among other things.
One of the signatures, the Matcha Montblanc (S$18++), looked so good that I had to try it. Upon chomping on a chunk from the stack of pancakes, I knew this was one of those healthier alternative food choices...
The taste of the pancakes were muted as it's not as sweet as we would expect it to be. The fresh cream and Mont Blanc (purƩed chestnuts) on top were delightful. The matcha sauce was good but it was simply too little for three pancakes.
I can understand why it's popular with the Japanese adults as they prefer their desserts not too sweet but this place isn't for me. I prefer my pancakes doused in syrup and all things sinful.
Here's CHA CHA POP $8, a ice cream Popsicle collab between @nehnehpopsg and @matchayasg. This stick of goodness is a pairing of matcha and houjicha. Matcha ice cream encased with houjicha and matcha shell, with black molasses, toasted sesame and feuilletine. šµš¦ Love the overall combination in one. Despite the hefty price tag for a stick of ice cream, I wouldn't mind paying more for something good. #betterthan8dollarsrainbowbagel š
Damn, that lava flow is nasty. š The charcoal toast is good on its own too. However having it together w the light green milk tea filling, felt that this didn't work quite well hence would suggest going for the original toast. Anyway, #meetandmelt be moving to Scape on 17th July. š
Situated across from Novena Church, this famous pancake chain from Japan is known for its healthier pancakes. These are made using their signature Kyushu Pancake flour base ā a combination of seven different Kyushu-grown grains. Bring your girlfriends to share the Sample Platter ($15), which comes with pancakes, waffles and French toast ā perfect for trying a bit of everything. For something heartier, go for the American Big Breakfast ($22) ā the full works with their famed pancakes is bound to fill you up. End with something sweet like the Matcha MontBlanc ($18) ā a stack of pancakes served with yummy matcha chestnut sauce, matcha mousse and vanilla ice cream! Pro tip: Make reservations if you're coming on a weekend.
Avg price: $20 per person

Matcha Crossiant $6 - the intense bitterness in the matcha lava was slightly overpowering for me, considering the generous amount of filling. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the crossiant more. šµš
