Guide To #Bangkok ✈️
Need I say more? We found the authentic victory flag sign coconut ice cream. There are just too many lanes, too many sections to explore the weekend market. So in future, mark down those that you are interested to explore, food is definitely one of them! Section 1,4,5 ! Mark it down 👍
Khao Niaow Ma Muang or simply Mango Sticky Rice is a traditional summer dessert because of the seasonal fruit, mango. They have the sweetest mango IMO and I managed to bring back some to Singapore! Mango Tango at SiamSq Soi 5 specialize in mango desserts but I think they are overrated. Popular a touristy area that makes it expensive as well.
Wherever you go, you are probably going to see a lot of these pushcarts, street food seller along the pavement. Cha-Yen, Thai ice tea that is made from strongly brewed Ceylon tea is one of my favourite drink at BKK. The sweetened condensed milk makes this a popular refreshment. Go ahead and tell them Cha-Yen, they will smiled back at you!
They called it the smelly river, Chao Phraya River is indeed dirty and polluted. On the first night when we touch down BKK, just adjacent to our Hotel, we settle for dinner at the eatery. There is a few choices along the lane, go for the second shop or the last shop. Tilapia fish is cheap and tasty, most common farm-raised fish in Thailand. They BBQ Tilapia directly on the grill after coating it with a thick layer of salt. 180baht ($7SGD)
Yes they look a little like our local pancake but just crispier, thinner and cheaper. There are at least 7/10 stores selling the same thing but they are still living under same roof. I bought the one with English "subtitle" and ordered one without the thick layered cream, with just the coconut filing. That aside, unless you make your way down to MBK to get your techies equipment, otherwise they are really like SIM LIM sq in Singapore. Overrated, the mall that is. NOT the thai pancake.
Did I mention that all Thais are all friendly? One of the must have street food at Chatuchak Weekend market is their quail egg and this man here posed for me to take a picture just because I ordered 3 boxes from him! 20baht (less than $1SGD) ✔️MustTry-Meter: 4/5
I know Thailand is not famous for seafood but this eatery at Chinatown is renowned for cheap and good seafood. T&K Seafood at Yaowarat, BKK, is one of the best places for Thai-style Tze char dishes in the city! Some of the popular dish include fried/grilled fish, prawn, egg omelette and Tom Yum Goong! They can be easily identified with the man in green (their work tee is green). The menu is easy to navigate with pictures and written in English. So tourist out there, fret not, you are well taken care of.
Isit just me or probably you would have notice that the Thais don't eat the soft boiled egg in a bowl but in a glass. Very interesting and probably too "sua ku" that I didn't know about it. Drinking the egg this way saves time and taste better. Either the egg is fresh or I was too fascinated. This is just opposite our hotel at The Berkeley Hotel, inside this shop KuangHeng that serves delicious chicken rice.
One of the dish most popular among tourists, although I don't like sour nor spicy stuff, I have to order and try right since I'm at BKK! A classic spicy lemongrass and shrimp soup that defines the Thais. We request them not to put too much chili but still ended up in tears and runny nose. 😂 This is Chic Grill at Asiatique, one of the newest addition to BKK, you have to take a ferry across but actually you can take a cab but it's gonna be very expensive.
Another cafe to try out when you are at Siam Paragon is this Sweethound, sister company of Greyhound. We saw the reviews of their DIY waffles and were fascinated at the way it is served. To be honest, they don't look at all appetizing but their red velvet waffle was so so fluffy and sweet. The Thais certainly have sweet tooth and a way to make their dessert so good. Anyway, we chose 3 toppings (cream cheese is ideal) to pair along with our waffles. DIY waffle set: 220 baht ($8.50SGD)
How many of you are frustrated at how overrated and pricey our Phad Thais are selling in Singapore? You can get the same thing (or rather, better and tastier) Phad Thai at their foodcourt at the popular wholesale shopping mall, Platinum Fashion Mall, level 6. All you need to do is to purchase a card at the counter to use it to order your food. Simple, easy and cheap! Phad Thai is only selling at 75 baht ($3SGD).
If you really have no time this trip to BKK, head down to After You at Siam Paragon and ordered their Shibuya Toast! You will not be able to find something similar in Singapore, and the toast are so good you will come back again the next time you are back at BKK. They have new flavors but I still prefer the original. Imagine having homemade fresh cream and vanilla ice cream that doesn't taste like Walls/Kings on top of your thick chunked of toast and extra honey, there's always room for desserts ya? 😋 After You is definitely the popular hot spot for all sweet-tooth teenagers. ✔️MustTry-Meter: 5/5
