To Try
Easily the star of the show, and only for $6. Then again it was also the first dish that came and we were starving. Definitely a must try! Hot and crumbly biscuits drenched in meaty creamy gravy ššš
Bone marrow with parsley and bonito flakes. This came with very good, warm bread that was perfect with chunks of marrow slathered on it. So very tasty and satisfying, finished every last bit of this starter.
The Kani (Crab) Gratin. Sinfully rich, luxurious and utterly delicious; the combination of sweet crab meat with crunchy, cheesy gratin was impressive looking and tasty. One of my dinner companion, lifestyle writer Rachel Xie was reciting "OMG this is shiok!" as it was really hard to articulate exactly how incredibly delicious it was, and I had to join Rachel's kind of surreal reenacting "OMG this is shiok!" Drenched in donburi sauce, topped with Mascarpone cheese and tempura flakes. At $12, this was hands down the best starter you can ask for. Must must order!
Basically a BRILLIANT, 5-kilo, pork and lard-stuffed burrito. Pretty amazed by the rows of hidden Chinatown gems with a couple of other weirdosš«
With pickled cabbage, beetroot, pumpkin and carrot, and soft pillows of pita. This is my new all-time favourite brunch item, light and gorgeous. The house smoked fish is incredible, you've gotta try it, even though you might be tempted to order more "common" brunch items.
This modern Peranakan restaurant has re-opened at Dorsett Residences just across Outram MRT. The new venue is spacious and comfortable for larger groups, perfect for a comforting, affordable dinner in a simple yet elegant setting. Come here with your family, and bond over the robust flavors of Peranakan classics like Ayam Buah Keluak, Mum's Curry and Beef Rendang. Finish off with their durian soup or banana caramel pudding.
Platters believes that sharing makes a meal more enjoyable, and it's hard to disagree with that. Go for their Butcher's Grill, an amazing array of pork, beef and lamb served up on a platter. If you're just looking to grab a drink and small bites, choose from their wonderful selection of charchuterie and cheese, and pick a nice bottle of red from their Euro-centric wine list
Some say this is the best KL Hokkien Mee in SG, with thicker noodles and crunchy bits of lard. Burppler Terence Chan shares, "I've been hankering for authentic KL hokkein mee since that one fateful night in subang jaya when I was introduced to it. This is a pretty good rendition with plenty of wok hei, thick sticky black sauce that's not too sweet, lotsa pork lard and noodles fried just right." Try it for yourself and share your experience!
4 words - Claypot Mee Tai Mak. This dish may not be pretty, but it's darn tasty and only $5 for extreme comfort, complete with a raw egg for you to stir in. As its name suggests, this place is known for their Fish Head Steamboat, and other great dishes like Salted Egg Pork Ribs and Boss Bee Hoon. Best part is its convenient location next to Maxwell Market, and of course, air con!
