Nothing else can hit the sweet spot of my "lemak" longing than a bowl of lontong from the famed Sinar Pagi stall (unit 02-137). The gravy is not overly saturated with coconut milk and is redolent with spices. Loaded with vegetables, a piece of tau kwa and half an egg for $3, the final magical touch is the generous topping of sweet "serundeng" (fried grated coconut). I also suggest you add the tasty "begedil" (potato cutlet) for just 50cents more.
Cinatown comes alive!
Tried the Satay, Joo Chiat Ang Moh Wantan Mee and Chendol. Satisfied! Stores close at 11pm. Good place to bring tourist.
Yummy. Value for money. Authentic Food cooked by stall holders. Ample car park.
Burlington square with aircon( facing Sim Lim Sq) Long queues. But service is fast. Tom yum is shiokest.
Why do sense and sensibility get thrown out the door when hunger pangs strike in the middle of the night? I, for one, crave the most unhealthy things around that time. More often than not, don't ask me why, it's Nasi Lemak that I long for. And it has to be the Ponggol one along Tanjong Katong Road. Once I am there, it's a no-holds-barred, storm-the-front event. Why have one chicken wing when I can have two? Heck, let's throw in an extra portion of rice while we pile on the fried egg, otak and lady's finger! When I am done stuffing my face, I quietly roll away into the night... propelled by my happy burps.
Back for the soup version because in all honesty, the soup here rules! Virtually opaque from brewing the prawns and other secret good ingredients for what I suspect is forever (ok, I may be exaggerating somewhat), it is one of the best around in my humble opinion.
