A calming environment with the perfect mix of vintage and industrial, Lola's is a great spot for a casual brunch. Their honey paprika wings are a hit, along with their trusty eggs ben. Pick a nice cider from their wide selection to go with your wings, and kick back for a relaxing weekend. Photo by gninethree G93

It's no surprise Ronin serves the best coffee in town, along with sister cafes The Plain and The Bravery. Boasting an ambience of of dark mystery, this is a place for quiet time alone, or a relaxing brunch with your best friend. Go for the French toast, and if you're up for something new, try the Wicked - a genius concoction of mint, chocolate and coffee that comforts your insides like no other. Photo by Alain Foodology

With each cake like an artpiece, it takes a Burppler about 20 shots before willing to dig in. Each mouthful tastes like heaven, and every single detail is meticulously taken care of, contributing to the burst of sensations on the tongue. Don't miss their playfully named G-Spot chocolate cake, or the awesome-sounding Triomphe caramel cake. * Tip: If you specially request for the rare 3D latte art from the head barista, you might just be lucky enough to get it ;)

With desserts that are not too-perfect-to-eat but just perfectly delightful, Carpenter & Cook manages to transport you to the 50s in an unpretentious, cosy way. The old benches and their authentic cutlery creates a lovely ambience for a peaceful afternoon. Don't miss out on their Passionfruit Meringue Tart- a perfect balance of sweet and tart.

Priced at $13.50, this stack of 3 red velvet pancakes come with addictive homemade cream cheese frosting, and are the perfect complement to the large serving of truffle fries you know you're going to have. Great for those who simply love red velvet!

D.O.C certainly has an edge over the rest by nailing both the sweet and the savoury buttermilk waffle. The savoury sun-dried tomato and herb waffle with bacon, fluffy scrambled eggs and maple bacon jam is a perfect choice for breakfast. The sweet version comes with caramelized rum bananas and vanilla bean ice cream, and has won over many dessert-lovers hearts. Why not try both next time you head down?

Strangers' Reunion's light buttermilk waffles topped with Greek yoghurt, honey and fresh berries has been hailed the best waffle in town by many. It's hard to fight these near-perfect waffles, so warm and fluffy you almost never knew a waffle could be that good. The yoghurt / berries/ honey combination leaves you feeling refreshed and satiated at the same time. Try these if you haven't yet.

At La Petite, you get to enjoy French favourites at not-so-crazy prices. This humble, cosy bistro is located in the outer corridor of Serene Centre. Order (at the counter) the escargots on toasted croissant ($14) to share, and the Confit du Canard (duck leg) for your main at $16.50. The duck is cooked to perfection, crispy skin with tender flesh, and an addictive potato gratin on the side.

For good dim sum sold at coffeeshop prices, many come here for their super-flowy liu sha bao, but items such as the siew mai or har kow may not be up to restaurant standards. Also try their steamed beancurd roll and steamed carrot cake. Bear in mind it's located in an eating house, so don't expect comforts!

Perfect for a chilled out night with friends over good food and beer, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more value-for-money dining spot in this area. Start with the Yomomoso wings -- you won't be able to stop. Get the No. 36 Burger, unassuming at $14, it'll satisfy you with it's simple goodness. The fish and chips are a killer to

Serving huge portions, be sure to share your food here at Gold Food. With most dishes priced below $10, this value-for-money Thai restaurant is great for some mango salad, green curry and tom yam. Located conveniently in Sunshine Plaza, it's a great hidden gem for cheap, tasty Thai food in town.
