Friday post run fuel - Tasty Fried Hokkien Mee with ikan bilis chilli and big chunks of crispy lard. I love my Hokkien Mee with an even mixture of yellow noodle and beehoon. The prawns were freshed and single-handed peeled n cleaned. One of the tastiest fried hokkien mee in sg! Shiok

Not only do they serve standard zi char items, New Ubin also dabbles in Angus steak and German pork trotters. The famous steak (reasonable at $10 per 100g) comes with potato wedges, caramalized onions and amazing, heart-stopping fried rice cooked in the beef fat. Their standout zi char dishes include the Salted Egg Squid, Har Cheong Gai, and of course, crab!

This humble eatery at the bottom of a HDB block in Ang Mo Kio is always packed on the weekends with families happily tucking in, and with good reason. You'll understand why, once you try their signature dishes - Deep Fried Prawn Ball With Pumpkin & Butter Sauce, Black Currant Sauce Pork Ribs, and Dong Po Pork Belly. With pleasant service and honest, good food, you'll be back.

Set on the buzzing Keong Saik St, Kok Sen is easy to overlook as just another coffeeshop. Expect amazing Claypot Yong Tau Fu, Big Prawn Bee Hoon, and Black Pepper Beef with Bitter Gourd. This is one of those places you bring your parents to for a nice dinner, even though it's a humble little restaurant. Be prepared for slightly higher prices, it's totally worth it though!

The good folks of Group Therapy now provide sanity and comfort in the East, with their second outlet located in the basement of Katong V. This spacious retreat feels rather different from their first at Duxton, but the food is quite the same. With a consistently high standards of food at good value, it's no surprise D.O.C is packed to the brim on weekends (make reservations). Go for the buttermilk waffles if you're in the mood for something sweet, or the breakfast platter that never fails to please. If you're serious about your coffee, you'll love Nylon. Be prepared for a tiny, tiny spot under an Everton Park HDB block that aims to satisfy caffeine addicts one cup at a time. Artichoke is one of those cafes you go to for a full-on meal, and is known for packing in surprising Middle Eastern flavors in the best ways possible. Hidden in a gorgeous courtyard, this gem is perfect for brunch or dinner. Go for the Mezze Platter or Lamb Shakshuka for brunch, and the Sultan's Delight for dinner. This relatively new cafe oozes oodles of industrial-chic goodness, complete with the original Telok Ayer Chung Hwa Free Clinic store front. Dig into My Awesome Salad ($15), which comes with a generous portion of greens, smoked salmon, avocado, chicken breast, duck rilettes and tomatoes for a healthy lunch break. This refurbished warehouse has been generating a buzz since it's doors opened as a sprawling bike shop and event space that conveniently serves coffee and food too. A lovely spot to relax on the weekend, come and check out the bicycles with your friends, and wind down with a simple coffee. Don't expect bells and whistles, it's a bike shop after all! Brunch in this brick-walled space is always a lovely affair, from the ambience to the well-executed food. Favourites include the Flan ($23), pork cheek confit with sauteed mushrooms, a perfectly poached egg, and a mountain of rocket sitting in a light pastry shell.
