This doesn't look like much but this is one heck of an awesome dish. Remember to drink all the soup! My fave goto place when it comes to Thai food. If you are feeling adventurous, ask the master Chef to cook whatever he feels like cooking. You'll be satisfied!
If you're on a budget but craving some finger-licking good crabs, head over to this unassuming coffeeshop stall in Hougang. Apart from regular zi char fare, they also serve Sri Lankan crabs ($25 for three smaller crabs, $30 for two medium, $40 for two large), cooked in a variety of styles including salted egg yolk (additional $3), black pepper and chilli. The pricing system can get confusing but fret not ā in our opinion, two medium crabs is just enough for two hungry tummies. Be sure to order the Mantou ($2 for six) to mop up the juices and gravy!
Pictured here is Crabs paired with Korean Sweet Potato Noodles (2 crabs priced at $40) - this was really valued for money as the crabs were substantially big, paired perfectly with Korean sweet potato noodles that soaked up all the prime essences from the flavour of the crab fried with black pepper! Resulting in chewy flavourful noodles that was oh so good especially on a chilly night.
Having a crab dish at most seafood restaurants can be ruinously pricey, as the crabs are usually charged by its size and weight. So if you are a crustacean fan, you probably love the idea of a crab buffet with over 22 crab dishes and seafood.
Starting from 1st to 12th April, you can enjoy 20% off the crab buffet simply by quoting my promo code ā(Alainlicious) earlybird 20% offā along with your contact details when you call Brizo at 6593 8855 for reservations. Full details is updated on the blog, link on my profile.
For those of you familiar with the Serangoon Gardens area, you would perhaps be surprised to learn that the decades old Borsch Steakhouse is no longer there. Instead, it has been replaced by a Chinese restaurant specialising in Crab Porridge called ę°ęµ·åŗē²„åäø家. Prices are rather decent, a pot of crab porridge that feeds about 5 people will cost you around $28. The taste of the crab porridge is reminiscent of black pepper crab tang hoon, minus the tang hoon. All I can say is that the porridge has indeed been infused with the taste of crab. If that's what you're looking for in a crab porridge, this place is for you. Special mention must be made to the quality of the crab used for the meat wasn't powdery. Most places serving crab porridge would usually use crabs of inferior quality but not for this place. Pay a little extra and you get crab and roe in your porridge!
Seriously, anything with salted egg is sure to make your taste buds dance. You can find at least five salted egg dishes on the menu, salted egg crab, fries, chips, chicken, sotong..... And all because the boss, Irvin, loves salted egg.
What a great find! Meat was supple and fresh, while the bee hoon was thick with flavor without feeling the lard being dragged down your throat. All this for $29.90! Definitely will be back again.
BUT nothing could compare with this. How good could Garlic and Crab be??? Very fresh crab with thin shell. There was no immediate strong garlicky taste. Just the sweet crab meat with the deep savory sweetness from the garlic. But the magic began when I bite into the soft and fluffy garlic. I could tasted "crab" in the garlic.
I believed the chef deep fried the garlic before baking them with the crabs. While they were in the oven, the juice from the crab flowed out and the garlic soaked it up like a sponge. Honestly, I loved the garlic more than the crab. š
