Just beside VeganBurg, we had the wonderful opportunity to try out the legendary Kimās Famous Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee. Just like other online reviews, he is known for serving up $15 Claypot Hokkien Mee to willing customers in the 1980s which would be ~$26 today. Even without the inflation, the more prudent or perhaps even ignorant amongst us, would still likened $15 for a plate of Hokkien Mee to daylight robbery. Apart from the Hokkien Mee, Mr. Tan Kue Kim himself is just as well-known and is recognised by his long-sleeve shirt and gold rolex which he wears even while frying the dish.
Picking up $20 worth of his fried edible gold, the noodles came wrapped up in 1 large banana leaf.
A wet Hokkien Mee, it reminded me of Yong Heng Fried Baby Squid Prawn Mee @ Bukit Batok Street 11, my benchmark for a good wet Hokkien Mee. While Kimās failed to deliver as much āwok heiā as the latter, one of my dining companions did remark that it was rare to find such a huge uncut portion of squid hiding within the noodles. And though I was unable to obtain a picture of it while it still looked appetising, Iām just contented to have tried yet another well established hawker stall which seemed to have maintained a consistent quality through the years. One of the better wet Hokkien Mee, I do hope their business is not significantly affected by the current pandemic.
Taste: 8.5/10 (Worth a try if in the area)

Free flow pork lard ! Really delicious hokkien mee. Very flavourful sauce. Thought would love it if it's wetter.
The wok hei taste is not as distinct as it used to be, and the wow factor seems to have deteriorated over the years š¤
Nevertheless, they are pretty generous with their pieces of sotong which were quite big! Their redeeming factor is the spicy chilli which helped to enhance the overall flavour of the noodles. Having said that, it did get quite jelat after a while as it was rather dry! Will stuck to my wet hokkien mee from now on š

Saw the boss present so we reckoned the standard should be better. But we were just wrong.
2 plates were served inconsistent, 1 dry and the other wet. The noodles didnāt absorb any of the stock, though it wouldnāt make any difference if it did. Bācos the stock didnāt have much of a taste.
So we left after consuming the prawns. Didnāt wanna waste our calories despite having waste our money on it.
Oysters were really huge and the new style of Hokkien mee is pretty interesting. Though oysters could be slightly fresher, and the taste of XO not as prominent, it's still a good eat. (~$12)
Ordered the medium sized Hokkien mee and fried sotong as a side. Noodles were bland, lacking in āwok heiā, Chili not interesting, prawns limp and all came together as a āmehā dish.
Sotong was only so-so.
A miss from the so called Rolex Mee Master, had a better time at his brotherās place.
