Very happy with my Kaisen Sashimi Don. The bowl is filled with flavourful and colourful fresh sashimi. Wasn’t very impressed with the additional top us with my main course. The salad abs miso soup are too salty.

As with all Japanese restaurants, it's common to order sashimi and/or sushi. Here, the chef combined both into a single dish, where the sashimi is piled atop cucumber sushi. With a wide range of seafood such as uni, ikura and salmon, this dish was somewhat like a deconstructed sushi 🤣

The Saba Kimchi Avocado Don was another intriguing bowl, with Grilled Saba Fish paired with a kimuchee and avocado mixture, with leafy greens served on the side. Was a little apprehensive initially but found the kimchi and avocado combination to be decently tasty! The Saba fish was pretty textbook though, flavourful and tender, with nothing much to shout about. A bowl of miso soup is all you need to complete this rice bowl!

Was treated to a feast at Ichiho! Featuring mostly Japanese dishes with a Western element, what I like best out of all the dishes I tried has to be the Katsu Curry Don. The curry sauce carpet bombs the bowl with umami when you mix them together, with the Miyazaki Pork Katsu fried to a crispy, golden brown and supplying flavour of its own. As per all the Dons served here, they come with 2 wedges, which was a rather uncommon sight for a Japanese don, though it doesn't affect the taste much.

found a hidden gem in my area! generous portion of fish and a good assortment, definitely worth the price. favourite was the large prawn 😋 however do note the chawanmushi was very watery even after they offered to replace another one 🥴

From the newly-opened Ichiho – Donburi & Sushi, which had recently opened its doors at Aperia Mall, taking over the former premises of now-defunct Grand Jete Izakaya & Bar. Serving items such as appetisers, salads, sashimi, sushi, Donburi, Tempura, and grilled meats, the Oshizushi is one of the few items served here that is less commonly found in such Japanese establishments here.

Essentially a box-pressed sushi, the sushi is shaped using a special wooden box for its rectangular appearance. The Unagi here comes pretty meaty here, carrying a slight sweetness from the glaze brushed over the top whilst also having a slight char, though the sushi rice here felt a tad bland being less vinegary and lacked a hint of sweetness to match — though that was still somewhat salvaged by the unagi’s glazing that provided that sweetness it lacked. A fairly decent dining option if in the area.
