The don was really not bad with the sides as buffet. The whole set at $17.90 nett. The sashimi in Don was pretty fresh and the variety was πŸ‘πŸ»
However the cleanliness of the cafe was mehhh, with obvious stains on the tablecloth.
Nevertheless will consider returning for this set as it is really value for money:)

Hanare is teppei's sister chain, so the chirashi don is good as always, but I just didn't understand why they used hot rice in the bara chirashi bowl. I was a bit disappointed by that, but overall the sashimi pieces were still well marinated and the side dishes provided were decent.

Barachirashi Don with salmon aburi, $18.90. Served with free flow drinks, miso soup, potato croquette and other small bites.

Hanare Cafe and Hana-Hana are both under the Teppei group and are located just some metres away on Tanjong Pagar Road. Located at the 2nd floor just next to The Blue Ginger, Hanare is like a hidden gem. Ordered the daily special: Barachirashi don with yellowtail ($19.80 nett). They serve fresh sashimi and offer a complimentary buffet line of side dishes (drinks, miso soup and rice inclusive). The chunky bamboo shoots in the buffet line were so juicy and good that we went for multiple servings! However if you were to compare Hanare with Teppei Syokudo at Ion and Takashimaya, the former loses out in the nice mix of shoyu marinade and rice.

$19.80 lunch set for this special Steak Chirashi Don. The portion was extremely generous for the price you pay, the quality of both the steak and the raw fish was spot on. You even get an unlimited amount of side dishes and drinks with your lunch. One of my favourite things about it? It is a secret hiding spot that does not get overcrowded during lunch hour!

Ever since I've got acquainted (finally) with Hanare a couple of months back, I hardly see any reason to return to Teppei anymore. Basically, the same Barachirashi is offered here, along with daily specials and free-flow of sides (including my favourite daikon-carrot-lotus root stew), sans GST/service charge and the claustrophobic feeling Teppei gives. The seasoned sashimi is as scrummy and generously portioned, although the rice is still as dry and bland as Teppei's πŸ˜’ Nothing that some furikake can't solve!

Im a fan of chirashi don but have yet tried bara chirashi before. This is my first time trying bara and i wasnt quite impressed with it. I could taste the sashimi not so fresh, perhaps i am a fan of really fresh sashimi and love the raw and original taste of the slices. For 17.90 a bowl, i thought it was not worth it.

But now that you've heard from us, you most definitely need to have a try.
For just $17.60, this is packed with thumb-sized chunks of salmon (they don't go easy on the belly too), tuna and swordfish, each marinated with shoyu. Topped with a crisp and generous portion of ikura (salmon roe), this bowl hits all the notes on your tastebuds.
ALSO, this comes with free flow miso, drinks (green tea), AND sides (a sizable amount). What more can you ask for from a dinner deal, really.
This pictures hardly does the bowl justice but forgive me, I took one shot and dove in.

More than half the week has passed! Hang in there everyone! Here's a cute heart-shaped mushroom which I found in one of the side-dishes at Hanare earlier on! The barachirashi (background) is still too salty to my liking...

Teppei's bara chirashi don minus the insane waiting list, still our favourite spot for our quick chirashi fix! The marinate complements the succulent sashimi cubes so well and helps to mask any trace of fishyness. I'm craving for this as I type this already...

😍🍴 Which also means a very happy stomach all the time :> &&& counting on her to have miso paste and wakame seaweed on hand at the office hahahaha

Was gonna crop out and just snap the chirashi (❀️!!) but she said "don't be mean to the sushi" (from Isetan) hahaha

Yummy and generous chunks of seasoned sashimi! Super value for money

We also ordered a salmon sashimi, $19.90, just because I wanted to try the other set menu that offers free flow of 20 side dishes. Was I impressed? Not quite so with the side dishes (quite meh actually), but the bara chirashi is indeed a steal!πŸ‘

Sister restaurant of the popular Teppei! Not too bad, served with 4 free flow sides!

One of the things that Hanare does well is bara chirashi and it shows. Mounds of fresh succulent sashimi slathered on top of steaming hot rice and freshly grated wasabi. All for less than 20? Add to the mix a kitschy throwback to a 80s buffet line that somehow grows on you and you will have one of the best value for money chirashi don anywhere.

I never thought I would mind too much fish in my chirashi but oddly enough, I did. Though fresh, the fish was heavily seasoned and that kinda ruined the taste for me. But at $17, nubbad to get your chirashi fix.
