Arrived at 1.15pm and there was no queue. Ordered black and white fried carrot cake at $5.00 with chilli.
To be honest I have always preferred white version of carrot cake. But this time, to my surprise, the black carrot cake blew me away. So many layers of flavour, the black carrot cake was sweet, savoury and spicy with a little bit of charred taste. The white carrot cake was savoury and spicy, with adequate chai poh (preserved radish).
Overall a good carrot cake but a little oily.

Woke up early for breakfast at Redhill Food Centre the other day, it was crowded but we were lucky to have found a seat quickly👍. Couldn't decide if we wanted black⚫ or white⚪ carrot cake at Fu Ming so we just got both haha. The carrot cake itself is really soft and not starchy at all, it just disintegrate in your mouth! We liked the black version more, as it flavourful and slightly sweet. The charred bits were really nice too😃. The white version, on the other hand, was nice too but we would've preferred it to be the crispy kind. We felt that the egg given was a bit little too🍳. However, still a nice place for a quick and fuss-free breakfast🌞!
Do you guys prefer White or Black carrot cake☺️?
Glossy carrot cake with lots of eggs, chye poh (a.k.a. preserved radish), dark sweet soya sauce & charred bits!

Awarded Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2019 & 2021, Fu Ming Cooked Food is pretty popular for its Fried Carrot Cakes (SGD3/4/5) that’s available in both white or black version. They also sell Bak Zhang at SGD1.60 each. Anyone tried it before?😬

Soft and QQ, there’s no doubt their “kway” stood out from the factory-made ones in terms of texture and taste. Sad to say but it would be a lot more enjoyable if it was less greasy…🥲

Specialist in the black version, this stall is easily spotted with their old-school Mickey Mouse signage.
.
Hawker couple Goh Chye Oo and Lim Chin Hong makes their carrot cake from scratch, the effort taking about 7 or 8 hours, the fresh daikon radish shredded, seasoned, and kneaded over 100 times to achieve a soft, bouncy texture.
.
Frying with a generous blanket of eggs and double lacings of sweet dark soy sauce, each bite is a greasy smoky burst of sweet savoury salty eggy flavour, with hints of crispy bits.
.
Their rendition is slightly more oily than elsewhere, but has its fans.
