Was recommended to try the Kouign Amann here some time back — not regretting getting this one at all. Sure; this may be less flaky than the one at Tiong Bahru Bakery with its distinct fluffiness that felt more bread-like despite still being pretty buttery, but the sugary crust at the bottom was a sheer pleasure to have — there was even enough to go around the entire pastry! Certainly worth dropping by just to grab a Kouign Amann (or a couple of them) if in the area.
Was beaming from ear to ear with every bite and had no regrets going with the staff's recommendation (it was either this or the 70% dark chocolate).
Crust was thin and crumbly, curd had a good amount of acidity and meringue was fluffy. I personally prefer less meringue, so I scraped off about a third to get more tartness in every bite. Bought some sourdough loaves and it's more of the soft, airy sort perfect with butter and jam. Will definitely be back for tarts and to try the danishes!
