And all these years I thought Ivins was the only place that serves cheap and good Peranakan food. I was at Tingkat Peranakan @tingkatpm at Owen Road, and I was surprised by the price and portion of the food. The spread we ordered can easily feed 3-4, and several dishes were actually very good.
🔸
My favorite has to be the Ayam Buah Keluak, which sees two chicken drumsticks served in a thick paste of pure buah keluak sauce. The nonya chap chye was also good, having been cooked till "nuah" and soaked up the gravy which was strong in the taste of hae bee. I also liked that the sambal sotong was very tender.
🔸
The prices of the dishes pictured here are:
Ayam Buah Keluak ($9.53+)
Itek Tim ($2.99+, for 1)
Sambal Sotong ($8.78+)
Seafood Otak ($10.00+)
Babi Pongteh ($7.48+)
Cinchalok Omelette ($5.05+)
Nonya Chap Chye ($5.98+)
Nonya Fried Mee Siam ($7.76+)
🔸
You can however skip the cinchalok omelette, which was lacking in the taste cinchalok, thus reducing it to just any omelette; and the babi pongteh, whose pork wasn't tender enough. But definitely, go for the ayam buah keluak, nonya chap chye and sambal sotong.

Sambal Sotong is my favourite dish by far!! It’s spicy with a tinge of sweetness which is exactly what I like. Portions here are enough for sharing amongst 2-3pax and they are quite affordable too!

Very yummy and fuss-free Peranakan food! Comes in portions enough to share for 2-3 pax, and I really enjoyed the sambal sotong ($8.80), sambal kangkong ($7) and nyonya ngoh hiang ($7). They have many dessert options and parents really like the chendol and pulut hitam too ($3 each) I would come back again but maybe to their more accessible outlet at Marina Square.

I liked that there is a ‘no-frills’ menu which allows you to order sets for the individual.
Therefore, you can have an entire rice meal with main, two side dishes, a drink and dessert for a price of $10 to $15.

There were choices of Ayam Kleo, Ayam Sio, Babi Pongtay, Nyonya Pork Ribs, Sambal Sotong, Sambal Ikan, Ikan Garam Assam and of course the quintessential Ayam Buak Keluak for the sets.
