Mrs Kuehs kueh salat made an appearance at dinner today. I love that the ratio of kaya to pulut was more than 1 and the kueh was delicious, reminiscent of chalk farms rendition. My personal preference is a softer sweeter wobblier version like bangawan solos but this was good enough to be finished within a few minutes 😜
Finally paid a visit to Clan Cafe, located on the 1st floor of the building housing Straits Clan (it was closed the last time I tried to visit!).
Heard a lot about their Otah Sandwich ($16), so instantly decided to order this. Since I was there with my parents, we took this as a side for sharing. We also had the Grilled Angus Ribeye Bowl ($23), Seared Scallop Spaghetti ($27) and Miso Salmon Bowl ($18) as main courses. I thought that the items were generally pretty good, and I did enjoy the otah sandwich (but maybe I expected too much, cos I wasn’t like completely wowed haha). We had the Kueh Salat ($6.90) as well, which looked and tasted similar to the Chalkfarm version (which I like). We also had a latte, flat white and long black ($5.50 each). Coffee was not bad also, but if u’re looking for fancy latte art, then u’re looking at the wrong place😝. The latte art was kept really simple. What I really liked about the place, besides the food, was the ambience and chill vibe. I could just sit there and chill for an entire afternoon (and would have sat there longer, if not for the fact that we were rushing to catch the fireworks). Definitely a place I would patronise again when looking for a chill afternoon hangout!

Wasn’t a fan of kueh salat until now.
Clan Cafe is known, among many other things, for their kueh salat cake. I love the thick consistency of the pandan custard which is packed with flavour! It sits heavily atop the layer of glutinous rice, streaked with a beautiful blue butterfly pea extract. Pair it with a cup of hot tea, and you’d have the perfect afternoon teatime snack.
I had their beef bowl and it was SO GOOD! Their tomato soup complimented the rice bowl perfectly and we ended the meal w their Kueh Salat which I HIGHLY recommend. Will be back!

KAKIAGE + GENMAICHA BROTH: Mixed grain bowl with mushroom, various fried veggies and kimchi; a pot of flavorful genmaicha broth to add inside the bowl; taste surprisingly good; best to eat fast before the fried veggies turn soggy..
MISO SALMON: Mixed grain bowl with carrot, beetroot, lotus root, edamame, snowpea, cherry tomatoes and 4 pieces of miso glazed salmon; flavorful and colourful..
TOMATO SOUP: Thick and flavorful soup; appetizing as slightly sour..
YUZU CHEESECAKE: Probably 1 of the best cheesecake I've tried; smooth like mousse; simple and light; tinge of sour from yuzu; well balanced yuzu taste with cheese; best dessert to end with..
KUEH SALAT: Smooth and filling dessert; tasty and not too sweet..
Overall a satisfying meal at a "atas-looking" café; quality meal; good service..

I’m glad I finally get to check it out! Ordered a few dishes and what won our hearts was the otah sandwich. Such a simple toast yet so tasty. We were slightly disappointed by their kueh salat. A little too soft for our liking. Chalk farm salat still win hands down.

Thick, creamy and smooth pandan custard paired with semi sticky fragrant rice. Certainly a filling and satisfying breakfast.
