Mentaiko & Ikura Cream Sauce Pasta

This mentaiko-ikura pasta was great. Nice al dente pasta with mentaiko sauce of a good consistency. However, it got a bit jelat to eat towards the end, and we wasted quite a lot of ikura because it was too salty and way too fishy even for me. (I think I have quite a high fishy threshold!)

It is really not difficult to fathom why every table @ristoranteLuka during lunch service ordered a plate of this pasta. Mentaiko plus Ikura is sure to get fingers pointing to it on the menu! Overall, this really does taste as good as it looks with each spoonful bursting with the umami from both roe. It is a tad spicy from the mentaiko but nothing too big a deal. This is best shared as the thick cream sauce may get a little too heavy if one attempts to polish this up alone. That said, I was scooping up some of the leftover sauce just to get that nice bite of the cod fish roe!

I came to Luka when it first opened and have fond memories of the pillowy veal agnolotti. It wasn’t on the lunch menu this time I went, so I decided to try the Mentaiko & Ikura Cream Sauce Pasta ($16). The spaghetti was al-dente and the cream sauce was heavenly. I could’ve had a few more plates of it!!

So much yumminess at such affordable prices - I’m in love.
