Apparently, in the three months I haven’t been to Half Pound, the management has changed, and with it, the menu. The signature Half Pound Burger is still there, but with a few changes.
The pickled daikon that worked wonders before has been dumped for a pineapple ring. The pineapple ring, unfortunately, wasn’t grilled and as such, the sweetness within was relatively non-existent. It did add a bit of bite and crunch to the burger, but it wasn’t as clean and crunchy as the daikon before.
Unfortunately, the one thing they failed to change was one of the original hang ups I had with the old recipe: they threw raw onions into the burger instead of sautéing the onions till they were charmingly caramelized before slapping it onto the burger. All burger joints please take note: don’t just pound your meat, sauté your onions before putting it on your burger, for the love of Christ.
The beetroot slaw, however, was a genius addition to the burger, as it’s crunchy texture was worthy of replacing its daikon predecessor, and the sharpness of the beet brought a zest and additional dimension to the savory burger that was a pleasant surprise.
The charcoal buns are a purely cosmetic change, as they neither added nor subtracted from the overall flavor of the burger. As for the rest of the burger, it’s pretty much stayed the same. The juicy half pound ground beef patty is still the same one I enjoyed pounding away at previously, and the candied bacon strips are still gloriously indulgent.
The butter sauce did seem a touch less rich than previously, but it still serves to add a rich, velvety texture to the whole burger. More importantly, it lubricates the burger excellently for the frenetic pounding that is to come.

Half Pound Burger ($22) has a thick angus beef patty, well-flavoured and complemented with bacon, cheese and beetroot. Even better, this comes with truffle fries!

How about this Half Pound Burger ($22)? 220gr beef, charcoal bun, candied bacon, cheddar cheese, tomato, onion, lettuce, beet slaw, pineapple & signature butter sauce, served with truffle fries.

Don’t forget to try their fried mushrooms too. I’m not a mushroom fan but I loved them.

A couple of unique creations that they offer such as the Malaysia Boleh burger which pays homage to the iconic Ramly burger. Containing a precise 220g of beef patty wrapped in egg, it is paired with some vegetables, slice of cheddar cheese and pineapple, sandwiched between a burger bun. Served with a side of fries and their signature butter sauce, this will set you back at a cost of only $20! The next photo is the Gourmet Burger, which is slightly more expensive at $26, contains foie gras inside the beef patty and served with truffle fries.

My only qualm about this place would be the ventilation which can be further improved as you will end up with an oily stench at the end of your meal.

Thanks to Cheng and Astley for inviting us over to try out their new menu. .
We ordered a Half Pound Burger ($22) which was a succulent and savoury 220gm Angus Beef that balanced out well with the sweet honey bacon, beetroot, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese and lastly their very own special beetroot sauce. The burger was topped with a charcoal bun which had a really sweet taste. We also enjoyed the truffle fries that came with a unique butter sauce and also the refreshing salad. 🍔
.
The next dish was the Aglio Olio Spaghetti ($10) with prawns (+$6). The prawns were fresh and crunchy and the spiciness of the spaghetti was just nice for me too. If you don’t fancy prawns, you can choose to have either chicken or vegs instead! (+$4)🍝
.
Crispy Wild Mushroom ($12) was the bomb! It’s had a crispy coating on the outside but mushrooms inside remained juicy and soft. The Mushroom Soup ($10) was smooth and creamy and came with bite-sized croutons. Would recommend the soup for sharing as the serving was a little too much for one. 🍄 .
Lastly, the Chocolate Molten Lava ($14) was served with strawberries and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. We loved the warm molten chocolate lava that came oozing out when we cut into it 🍫🍦
Thanks to Burpple's ongoing promotion with Half Pound that sees Half Pound's namesake burger being peddled alongside a nice cold pint of beer, I've discovered what is quite possibly the best burger in Singapore in my books. In fact, the Half Pound Burger was charged with being an absolute banger of a burger, and the jury (a.k.a. my tongue) has found the burger grilled-ty as charged. Geddit? Guilty, grilled-ty? Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week.
The ingredients list is already mouthwatering enough on its own. The 220 gram Angus beef patty is the headliner while the candied bacon, truffled gouda cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, and pickled daikon are the supporting acts. But the proof is in the burger, and I found proof that God loves us, as He has blessed us with the Half Pound Burger.
The burger is so delightfully thick that in order to fit the burger into your voracious maw, you have to make like a snake and dislocate your jaw just to get it in. But it's more than worth it, believe me. I think the burger cried out "pound me daddy" as I sank my teeth into the fluffy buns, and I couldn't help but gladly oblige. Before I knew it, I'd pounded down the beautiful behemoth of a burger.
Every bite of this sumptuous burger is a trip into paradise. The thick, juicy half pound burger patty was done to a marvelous medium, and the seasoning was simply smashing! The patty is perfect on its own, but why settle for mere perfection when you can attain nirvana? The candied bacon was glazed in a sticky coffee (I'm almost dead certain its coffee) syrup, and the insistent coffee taste mixed with the smokiness of the bacon complemented the heavy, savory flavors of the burger perfectly. The truffle in the buttery, nutty Gouda brought an enchanting earthiness, and the mild, melty Monterey Jack cheese gave the burger the sexy cheese strings.
The one thing that sets the Half Pound Burger apart from its competitors is the pickled daikon. It has a pleasant tanginess to it that is muted so as to not impose upon the rest of the burger, but the biggest boon it brought to the burger was its crunchiness. And that was what really stood out from the soft, curvy textures of the burger. The beautifully browned buns were toasted to perfection and pleasantly pillowy, but they understandably got a bit soggy from all the juices from the burger as I pounded it down into my stomach.
The sauce that's served separately is the final component that made this exquisite burger utterly unforgettable. Consisting of what I suspect is beef jus, among other ingredients, the yellow sauce wasn't heavy on flavor, but it was supremely rich. Buttery and charmingly creamy, this sauce was simply made to be bottled and sold to the discerning masses. It really is that excellent. It also makes for a pretty good condiment for the fantastic French fries on the side when it mingles with the juices from the burger.
Priced at $18+ on its own, this burger is stunningly stellar. Grab as many napkins as you can, because the juices are definitely gonna flow as you pound away with pleasure.
